Saturday 1st July 2023 Summer Break and Review

1st July, 2023 @ 3:24pm

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Red Evelyn (89) – As predicted the favourite Embarked (95) proved vulnerable, and was no value at the prices on offer. Unfortunately, the selection couldn’t reproduce her last two efforts, and that inconcistency she displayed in the past showed up again. A repeat of her recent form would have seen her challenging the eventual winner Good Humor (99) who incidentally is trained by the same trainer John Butler.

0.5pt e/way Hightimeyouwon (105) – A solid effort from the selection who ran the exact same speed figure as when last seen at this track. Unfortunately, the normally inconsistent Verhoyen (108) produced another strong performance over this C/D, if not as brilliant as his last one. Result 2nd 14/1 adv..12/1 SP.

1pt win Alma Libre (99) – A disappointing effort from this 5-y-o mare who ran 3L per mile slower than last year’s second place effort in this race. Consistency has never been her strong suit.

0.5pt e/way Crassus (101) – A very nice seasonal debut from Noel Meade’s gelding if a little below his win from Na Caith Tobac last time we seen him over 10f at this venue. One to keep an eye on over the next few weeks. Result 3rd 18/1 adv…12/1 SP.

1pt win Pretence (88) – Not the same number the horse produced behind Snellen at Limerick, but she did get the job done on a slightly easier surface. Opening shows of 33/1 from the night before were clearly mistaken, and it was nice to see the faith in the clock be rewarded. Result 1st 6/1 adv..9/2 SP.

1pt win Love Your Work (94) – This is one of the most frustraing horses in training right now. He has disappointed many times at Southwell since running two huge races there in March 2022. I foolishly believed that because his last two efforts at Newcastle were also big on the clock that he had a real liking for this venue. As soon as he was asked for any sort of effort he went backwards. One to avoid now.

0.75pt e/way Court Of Appeal (100) – A disappointing effort from Noel Hynds 6-y-o gelding who ran 2L per mile slower than his effort when winning lto at Navan 19 days ago. It may be that the “bounce” factor came into play, and he should still be followed going forward.

0.5pt e/way Paradise Perfect (41) – Unfortunately, no sort of run for our money with this one who was virtually pulled up 71L behind the winner. The formline was the correct one with the eventual winner The Franchise finishing one place ahead of the selection at Fairyhouse lto.

0.5pt e/way Queen Of The Skies (104) – A decent enough performance from the selection who appeared to bump into a real John & Thady Gosden improver in the winner Peace Man (107).  She did run 2L per mile slower than her Beverley effort, probably due to being out again just 19 days after a big seasonal debut performance.

0.5 pt e/way Inigo Jones (92) – No sort of performance from the selection, who Alice Haynes will have to use all her expertise to get him back to his previous form.

I will be taking a Summer Break now for July. I will be back in August, hopefully refreshed and ready to pick more winners.

Thanks,

Graham
