Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Lady Of Arabia (104) – Repeated her C&D effort from August, and everything went to plan during the race. Hector Crouch rode the perfect race from stall (2) making sure he got a nice position in touch with the leaders. Solanna pushing forward helped with the pace, and created a lovely pocket for the selection. It is usually a benefit to challenge on the outside of the leaders in the straight at Kempton, and the daughter of Poet’s Word travelled nicely to take up that position. She showed great battling qualities to take up the lead near the final furlong, and came home 3/4 length ahead of Francesi. Result 1st 8/1, 7/1 adv…SP 9/2
Today’s Advice
BALQAA (10f 42y Hcap) – This daughter of Cable Bay looked a shade unfortunate not to win eight days ago over C&D, and get’s the chance to go one place better in tonight’s (6.00) Newcastle. She raced keenly in rear that day, before coming with a late run over 2 furlongs out to lead inside the final furlong before just getting caught on the line. Christian Howarth takes the ride again, and takes a useful 5lb off her back. Interestingly, the selection won this race last year with tonight’s favourite Oscar Doodle beaten 3 lengths in third receiving 14lbs at the weights. With Stella Barclay’s mare meeting the favourite on 19lbs better terms we can see that the selection is well weigthed to return to the winner’s enclosure. As a hold up horse that races keenly it is hoped that prominent racers Stand Free, Prince Achille and Oscar Doodle ensure this is a fair test.
PATONTHEBACK (7f 14y Hcap) – This Gemma Tutty trained 5yo recorded an emphatic 4 length win over C&D when last seen on Tapeta, and a reproduction of that effort will make him very difficult to beat in tonight’s (8.00) Newcastle. The son of Kodi Bear finished third lto at Carlisle on Turf in tonight’s grade, and carries 7lb less than his C&D win with apprentice Callum Hutchinson’s 3lb claim taken into account. With all three career wins coming on tonight’s surface it would appear that the selection may just be a Tapeta specialist, and it will be interesting to see if he can build on his most recent victory. Frontrunner Verona Star should set a decent pace for him to track, and hopefully he can go on to record his fourth career victory.
