MISTY GREY (7f Hcap) – This Tom Dascombe trained 6yo grey gelding returns to the scene of his last win for tonight’s Class 2 Handicap in the (7.00) Chelmsford. A career best (115) speed rating was achieved last July over 6f when winning a Class 2 Handicap from a 2lb higher handicap mark than tonight’s of (106). On that occasion the son of Dark Angel travelled well behind the pace, but had to wait to mount his challenge, before coming home 1/2 length ahead of Strong Power. Known more as a 7f specialist, this was an excellent effort that demonstrated his versatility. In fact, prior to that, his career best speed rating of (114) was achieved over the extended 7f at Wolverhampton. Surprisingly, his last 9 efforts have been on Turf upon which he has a 1-23 win record. With a record of 5-12 on the All Weather, it is easy to see which surface brings out the best in him. His most recent effort, 12 days ago at Haydock, hopefully showed his wellbeing when contesting a Group 3. On that occasion he raced prominently before taking up the running three furlongs from home, only giving way at the 2 pole. David Probert takes over from regular pilot Richard Kingscote, and his last ride for the stable was a successful one on Brad The Brief at 8/1 in 2019. At the prices on offer, a chance is taken that he can revert back to his previous All Weather best.
