Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Rogerwaswrong (86) – As stated in yesterday’s column the step back in trip was going to be a concern for a horse that stays well. I would have liked connections to be more positive, with this in mind, but he was just held up in the rear and racing keen. The photo below shows the positions when settled.

The first four home are in the first five positions and the selection is keen in eighth place. Maria Land in rear (number 8) performed best of the hold up horses. The selection could only manage to stay on into sixth place, and is the type that will need things to fall right for him going forward.

0.5pt e/way Golden Ash (94) – A chance was taken with the selection on the Softer surface, and as the meeting went on conditions deteriorated. By the time the last races on the card were being run winning times were 65 lengths slower than standard. The selection still performed bravely to snatch fourth place behind the impressive Feathertop (108). In these non handicaps, when making more speculative selections, the fourth place is nearly always needed. A better option would be the Betting Without Feathertop market where the selection would have been 18/1 as opposed to 33/1 to finish in the first three. I will try to avail of these more favourable terms going forward.

Today’s Advice

Shoot To Kill (7f Hcap) – The handicapper has only raised the selection 3lbs following his brave victory at Lingfield lto over the mile. Despite now being rated (77) trainer Robin Brisland has managed to get him into tonight’s (0-75) handicap for the (7.30) Kempton. Stall (12) may appear to be a negative, but there doesn’t appear to be much pace in tonight’s contest. Wizarding in stall (1) should lead, and I would be hoping for Darragh Keenan to be in the two path just tracking the leader. The drop back to 7f should not cause a prblem, considering he was all out to hold on over the mile at Lingfield. I am a little surprised at double figure quotes in the market, and if the pace scenario works out as it reads, he looks a little overpriced. The son of Dandy Man has plenty of course and distance form from 2021.
