Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Equion (81) – The slowest race on the card, and the first three when the positions settled filled the first three places at the finish. The selection was a little outpaced but stayed on well. Result 3rd 9/1 adv…SP 5/1
1pt e/way Way Of Life (107) – The number I had in mind for the selection was a (106) so he has run right up to form on the clock. The 50/1 winner was a big surprise on form. Result 3rd 6/1 adv…SP 11/2
1pt win Fast Affair (96) – A disappointing effort from the selection who was gambled on from 7/2 into 15/8 favourite but couldn’t find another gear when the pace quickened at the 2 furlong pole. It may be that she did not appreciate the slow pace, but overall she should have done much better.
1pt win Sir Titan (101) – Another solid effort from the selection who was taken on a bit too much for the lead in the race. Hopefully, Tony Carroll can find a race for him soon.
0.5pt e/way Brave Display (99) – Another fine display from the likeable 9yo who enjoyed the decent pace. There should be a little race in him going forward when he get’s a nice pace to aim at. Result 3rd 33/1, 28/1 adv….SP 28/1
Today’s Advice
Shoot To Kill (7f 1y Hcap) – This Robyn Brisland trained 6yo has been left on a mark of (77) for today’s (2.22) Lingfield following his solid effort from a wide draw at Kempton. His speed figure profile has always suggested that Lingfield is one of his favourite venues, and he still looks well treated on past form. A favourable draw in stall (5) has been secured for today, and everything looks in place for another decent performance.
Balqaa (10f 42y Hcap) – This Stella Barclay trained 5yo mare was a disappointing selection for this column when she could only manage a well beaten fifth place behind Prince Achille over C&D back in September. Judging by her recent excellent third behind Fast Affair at Wolverhampton, it may well be that the race at Newcastle came too soon for her. At the prices on offer for today’s (4.05) Newcastle it may be worth giving her another chance. Hopefully there is enough pace in the race from prominent racers Red Derek, Fitz Perfectly and Purple Gown to enable her to show her best.
Power Of Darkness (8f 5y Hcap) – A competitive handicap for the (6.25) Newcastle, and at the prices I am willing to have a small interest on this 8yo gelding from the Charlie Fellowes stable. The selection has dropped right down the weights from a handicap mark of (88) last winter. He has found a bit of form recently when winning at Salisbury and finishing runner-up over the 7f 14y trip at tonight’s venue. The step up in trip should hold no fears for him, and his effort behind Point Lynas in March over C&D would indicate a liking for this track. There appears to be a decent bit of pace in the race, so I would prefer him not to be too far forward in his run.
