Today’s Advice

Blue Hawaii (12F 98Y Hcap) – An interesting apprentice handicap for the (12.30) Newcastle with eight of the twelve jockeys claiming an allowance. Millie Wonnacott takes the mount on this 8yo mare, and is one of the more experienced riders, having ridden plenty of winters over the jumps. The selection is also more known for her exploits in the National Hunt sphere, and is quite unexposed on the Flat. A recent runner-up finish over C&D to Brunello Breeze, while carrying 10st 5lbs when keeping on well at the finish, yielded a (102) speed figure on the clock. The handicapper has dropped her a pound for that effort to a mark of (51), and she looks well treated on the Flat judging by her handicap mark of (113) over fences. Hopefully, Major Snugfit and the visored first time Masque Of Anarchy can provide enough pace for her to aim at.

Sandret (8f 5Y Hcap) – This 7yo had been dropped by the handicapper to a career low handicap mark, when reappearing last month over C&D following a 131 day break. On that occasion the hold up performer was denied a clear run, and was finishing best of the field at the finish. Jockey Andrew Breslin gets the chance to make amends in today’s (3.25) Newcastle, and his 3lb allowance may come in handy. The selection has been lightly raced this year, and hopefully he can go one better than his runner-up finish behind Vindobala. There are quite a few hold up performers in the field today, and we will be hoping for a decent pace from prominent racers Reel Prospect and Danielsflyer.

Tiger Beetle (9f 104y Hcap) – The handicapper has raised the Mark Rimmel trained 5yo to a new mark of (72) following a comprehensive victory over C&D lto by 2 1/2 lengths. He gave indication of his preference for today’s surface when recording a career best (109) speed figure behind English Spirit (who has won again since) over C&D in March. He has raced off a mark of (78) in the past, and can still be competitive from his new rating. We will be looking for a decent pace from Hi Clare and Tarbaan in order for him to show his best again today.
