Today’s Advice

Bellick (7f Hcap) – This 8yo would appear to have a few more boxes ticked than the market would originally have thought for today’s (2.55) Dundalk. The handicapper has dropped him 3lbs for his last effort when finishing unplaced over the mile behind Chummie at this venue. As I wrote in a previous article, the time for that race was unexpectedly faster than par with the winner clocking a (105) speed figure, some 4 lengths per mile faster than standard. The prominent racing Bellick was drawn wide that day and weakened over a furlong out. He now races off his last winning mark, and the drop back in distance should enable him to show his more competitive form from last winter. The obvious concern is the wide draw, but we should also note that he was drawn wide for those three efforts last November and December too. The price has been nibbled at already, but he still looks worth a sporting interest.

Roman Palace (8f Hcap) – This 4yo filly also hails from that Chummie race lto, and the market may have overlooked her chance for today’s (4.40) Dundalk. Conditions for today’s race would appear to be different regards pace with just Humanitarian looking the likely front runner today. She was dropped out at the rear lto, and travelled nicely, before coming home well off the strong pace on that day. The race may be run totally different today, but I am happy to have a small interest at a double figure price.

Talis Evolvere (7f 36y Hcap) – Conditions for tonight’s (7.00) Wolverhampton should be more to this gelding’s liking following an unplaced effort on Heavy ground lto at Newmarket. The 3yo won his maiden impressively by 4 1/14 lengths at Pontefract following a gelding operation. He also caught the eye of the stewards when given a quiet all-weather introduction over this C&D back in June. He looks the most likely to put it up to short priced favourite McLean House tonight, and a bit of pace from Love De Vega will help this son of Awtaad show his best.

Green Power (8f 142y Hcap) – It may be worthwhile to put a line through the selection’s last race, and view his chances differently for tonight’s (8.30) Wolverhampton. On that occasion pace was non-existent in the race, and the first three horses when positions settled remained in the first three places at the finish. Green Power was held up out the back, and racing too keen, before making his challenge wide and never appearing dangerous at the finish. With more pace on in tonight’s contest with the likes of Star Of St James in opposition, I am looking to see the horse who won at Kempton in October appearing tonight instead.
