Today’s Advice

Ursa Minor (10f Hcap) – This seven-year-old gelding produced a decent enough effort over the extended 12f last time out at this venue when staying on into seventh beaten just over 5 lengths following a 308 day break. The handicapper has dropped him 3lbs to a mark of 95 now, and if he can come forward slightly from this effort he looks overpriced as the complete outsider of the field considering his past efforts at this track. An eighth place in a Group 2 behind Valiant Prince last February shows that he still retains plenty of ability. The drop back in trip should also see him in a better light.

Mr Kafoo (6f Mdn) – A career best (105) speed figure from this five-year-old lto over C&D when trying to make all from stall seven in a (0-95) handicap before being collared late on by Morning. That looks to be the best effort of today’s field on the clock, and with a better draw in stall one a reproduction of that effort would see him hard to overcome. He doesn’t look the stoutest of finishers so stakes will be kept low.

Morning (6f Group 3) – This four-year-old recorded a career best (109) speed figure when carrying 9st 11lbs to victory recently in a (0-95) handicap. On that occasion he broke awkwardly from a wide draw in stall ten, and looked to need some convincing to get into gear in the first furlong from jockey Richard Mullen. He raced wide throughout the race, and eventually wore down the leaders near the finish to record a 1/2 length success. His overall profile suggests this could be a bit of a flash in the pan, but with some of his rivals having their seasonal debut, I am willing to have a small interest at a double figure price with fitness on his side.
