2pts win Diomed Spirit (112) – Another step forward on the clock from this four-year-old who took his time to get to grips with the electric pace set by Night On Earth before making headway at the two furlong pole and collaring Moon Flight near the finish. The handicapper cannot be too hard on him going forward as he only wins by small margins. Result 1st 3/1, 11/4 adv…16/5F SP.

Today’s Advice

Beylerbeyi (7f 14y Hcap) – This Ian Williams trained four-year old has caught the eye on his last two attempts on the all-weather over shorter distances. On both occasions he hasn’t got the clearest of runs through, and has looked like he may benefit from a step up in trip. The handicapper has dropped him 2lbs to a new career low mark of 60 for today’s (3.55) Newcastle which allows him to sneak into this (0-60) contest. Apprentice Jack Enright, who has been successful recently on the William Haggas trained Nine Tenths, takes a further 7lbs off his back. The dam Gherdaiya has won over seven furlongs in the past, and has bred seven furlong and mile winners giving hope for today’s step up in trip.
