Today’s Advice

Celtic Prince (10F Hcap) – This nine-year-old has been a great servant on the Emirates circuit over the years, and a recent third place in a Group 2 over a mile at this venue recorded a healthy (110) speed figure on the clock. He has been noted making late headway in his races, and a step up in trip for today’s (4.25) Meydan looks well worth exploring for connections. He has been given three weeks to recover from his seasonal debut, and hopefully he can reproduce his excellent efforts over the mile at today’s distance.

Gobi Star (7f Hcap) – At first glance it may look like the handicapper finally has this six-year-old’s measure with his new rating of (77) proving too much last time out. However, his most recent effort was over six furlongs, and he looks more like a seven furlong specialist. His latest performance over today’s distance was a remarkable one considering he blew the start, and had to make up many lengths on his rivals. The fact that he was still able to find enough to prevail by a short head over one of today’s rivals Exquisite Acclaim shows that there could still be more to come for today’s (4.45) Dundalk. Providing he breaks from the stalls better today, he looks worth a sporting interest to continue his excellent form over today’s trip.

Zahee (8f Hcap) – This nine-year-old’s chance will also depend on how he exit’s the stalls for tonight’s (6.15) Dundalk. It has been a long time since he last visited the winner’s enclosure in 2022, but there have been signs recently that he can finally get his head in front. A twelfth place finish, when blowing the start over C&D in December, beaten seven lengths from a wide draw in stall fifteen under the welter burden of 10st may not have read well, but it was a definite sign that he can be competitive with a better start. His most recent effort was a similar performance on ratings, but he did exit the stalls much better, and the race was too slowly run to suit his racing style. With a similar break from the stalls, and a decent pace from Humanitarian and Snag It, he looks worth an interest at the prices on offer.

Gatsby Cap (8f Hcap) – This eight-year-old has been racing over the extended ten furlong trip recently, and may show better form with the drop back to a mile for tonight’s (6.45) Dundalk. He races off a 10lb lower mark than his last winning one on the all-weather, and while he may not be the force of old there have been signs recently that he may be a bit overlooked for tonight’s contest. A fifth place finish behind Dark Street over the extended ten furlongs in September can be slightly upgraded considering he had to pass most of the field early on in the race from stall fifteen in order to get a position, before weakening at the finish. I am willing to allow him his last effort in a race where the first eight home ran faster than par. It may well be that he is past his best now, but tonight’s conditions may suit him a lot better than his most recent.
