Today’s Advice
Topo Chico (6f 16y Hcap) – David Loughnane’s four-year-old has been slowly dropping down the weights since her return from the turf in December. Her two most recent placings may not look great on paper at first glance, but she has recorded career best speed figures on both occasions. Her two career victories were achieved on turf when racing less prominently than she has been lately, and if she can relax a bit more in her races she should have more left for the finish of tonight’s (7.00) Southwell. She raced too keenly, with no cover, early on last time out over the extended six furlongs at Wolverhampton before receiving a bump from Novak and being knocked off his stride. The fact that she was still able to record a (104) speed figure carrying 9st 9lbs indicates that racing on the all-weather holds no fears for her. She performed with credit on the clock prior to that effort over C&D when beaten just 1/4 length by one of tonight’s market leaders Dark Side Thunder. Better off at the weights, and at twice the price, she looks worth an interest tonight with Rossa Ryan on board, who has ridden ten winners in the last fortnight.
Moyola (6f 16y Hcap) – This Lucinda Russell trained three-year-old bounced back to form last time out over the extended six furlongs at Wolverhampton following two poor efforts when racing too keenly with no cover at Newcastle. Although this will be his course debut in the (7.30) Southwell tonight, he may be worth chancing considering there is plenty of pace in the race. A decent pace to aim at brings out the best in him and with Old Chums, Rusheen Boy and John Steed in opposition the race might set up well for him. He has been noted finishing well in his races when winning at Newcastle and behind Invincible Speed at Wolvehampton most recently.
