Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Topo Chico (101) – A three length per mile slower performance at the weights than when last seen over this C&D from the selection. A third race in twenty six days may have been a contributing factor. There is a win on the all-weather around the corner, and it might be best to freshen her up before her next outing.
0.75pt e/way Moyola (94) – The pace duel that appeared on paper beforehand never materialised with Rusheen Boy able to come across from stall eleven and lead with no pace pressure. The first five at the finish were in the first six places at the three furlong pole. A race not run to suit the selection.
Today’s Advice
Phoenix Aquilus (15F 218Y Hcap) – This seven-year-old has been performing with credit over jumps finishing third in a handicap hurdle at Taunton. His most recent effort on the level was his first in 118 days, and looked to be a pipe-opener for his National Hunt campaign. A fourth place finish behind Smart Champion over C&D towards the back-end of 2022 from a handicap mark of 79 reads very well in the context of this race. The handicapper has dropped him eleven pounds since, and he looks to be racing off a very competitive mark for tonight’s (8.30) Kempton. He looks worth a small interest at a double figure price to transfer his decent form over the jumps back to the flat.
