Today’s Advice

Old Mexican (8f Hcap) – This three-year-old produced a career best effort both on the clock (98), and on Racing Post Ratings when finishing fourth over C&D last month. On that occasion he raced prominently from stall one, and although he raced green in the closing stages, as it was just his third career effort, he stuck to his task well enough to finish ahead of two of tonight’s rivals Bergamasco and Pomeriggio at level weights. The handicapper has put him in off a mark of 70 for his handicap debut in the (6.30) Dundalk tonight. This looks quite a lenient mark to me considering he will receive ten pounds from the former, and two pounds from the latter. He looks overpriced in the market at a double figure price considering the two horses he beat are shorter prices. Obvously, he needs to reproduce that effort, and as he is so lightly raced we have to take a chance on that happening. At the prices on offer it may well be worth taking a chance on that piece of form. Dylan Brown McMonagle, a favourite of this column, is a positive jockey booking for the selection. Dylan has been improving his game Down Under over the winter months, and it will be great to see him back in action tonight. For this account the selection will be advised to three places, but those who can avail of the extra place are advised to do so at a shorter price.
