Yesterday’s Review
2pts win Due Date (102) – A perfect trip for the selection tracking the leader before coming well clear in the straight to win by 3 1/4 lengths. A fine job by the Charlie Wallis team in getting the horse back to his best. Result 1st 10/3 adv…9/4F SP.
0.5pt e/way Arbaawi (104) – It was nice to see the visor work on the selection who had shown decent form in the United Kingdom in the past when with Stuart Williams. Confidence in the performance was displayed throughout the day with the early offers of 50/1 being shortened into 20/1. A fine ride by apprentice James Ryan, who overcame trouble in running again, to lead near the finish. Result 1st 50/1 adv…20/1 SP.
1.5pts win Cabeza De Llave (103) – Although I was concerned early on in the race that Cabeza De Llave may have been a bit too far back, the race developed as predicted, and we saw a strong ride from the excellent Tom Marquand to collar the front running Make Clear on the line by a head. Result 1st 3/1 adv..9/4 SP.
Today’s Advice
Bismilah Alik (7F 210Y Cns) – The only winner in this morning’s (11.00) Jebel Ali, the selection looks a little bit overpriced as he has shown himself to be the fastest on the clock so far as well. Although that performance was over the 6f 211y trip, his dam Dressed To Kill’s five-year-old son Underdressed was only beaten a nose over the extended mile at Indiana Grand last summer. He looked to respond very well when pressure was applied in his most recent performance at this venue, and looks worth a small interest at the prices this morning.
Lochnaver (10F 42Y Hcap) – Hollie Doyle may seem an unusual booking for the Jim Goldie stable in today’s (3.35) Newcastle, but she has won on her last two rides for the stable on Jaminoz at 13/2 on both occasions. This filly drops back in trip to the scene of her last victory, from the same handicap mark, and she looks worth a sporting interest at the prices today.
Pepsi Cat (5F Hcap) – This Steph Hollinshead filly has improved recently by 12lbs in the handicap ratings, rattling off a hat-trick over the minimum trip, with two of them coming over tonight’s C&D. This represents a step up in class, and she now has to face a short priced John & Thady Gosden improver in tonight’s (6.45) Newcastle. The faster they go up front the better for her, and a decent pace from Our Absent Friends and Herakles (who looks well weighted on his recent C&D win, but has some consistency questions to answer) would be a boost for her chances.
Amaysmont (8F 5Y) – If we were to pick the perfect C&D for this horse it would be tonight’s mile in the (7.45) Newcastle. The step up from 7f last time out at Southwell should see another step forward from the Kevin Frost trained seven-year-old, who looks very well handicapped on past form with Richard Fahey. It will be interesting to see if he can continue his progress towards his previous form with cheekpieces retained, which he wore for the first time last time out.
Isle Of Wolves (9F 104Y Hcap) – This eight-year-old has been bumping into some decent performers lately, and tonight’s (8.30) Wolverhampton may provide him with a better opportunity to get his head in front for the first time since 2019. He can be somewhat of a reluctant hero, but his two best recent efforts on the clock have come over this C&D. He races off a handicap mark of 60 tonight, and apprentice Alec Voikhansky (who takes off a valuable 5lbs) will have to be at his strongest in the finish to get him home in front. A small interest to give the short priced favourite Tonal a race, looks the way to go.
