Today’s Advice

Tactical Bound (9F 98Y Listed) – The key race on the clock for today’s (3.15) Meydan looks to be the one Elyabri won over C&D last time out. On that occasion he soon led from a low draw, and came home a comfortable looking two and a half lengths clear of the selection. A wide draw in stall twelve today, with other pace on his inside, may complicate matters slightly more. Tactical Bound was a bit slow out of the gates that day, but made nice headway four furlongs out, and stuck to his task well. He looks held by the winner, but may represent a bit of value if things don’t go as smooth for the winner as the last day.

Desert Peace (7F 210Y Hcap) – Formerly trained by Charlie Appleby, and more recently Bhupat Seemar, this seven-year-old caught the eye over the extended six furlongs last time out for new trainer Julio Olascoaga. On that occasion he finished well from a midfield position behind all the way winner My Dubawi keeping on into fifth position. It was his first piece of decent form since finishing third behind Royal Mews over this C&D in February 2022. The time was very good, and the handicapper has kindly dropped him another 5lbs to a mark of just 90 for today’s (4.25) Meydan. It will be interesting to see if he can reproduce that form for Julio today, and at a double figure price he looks worth a sporting interest.

Boomerang Bill (7F Hcap) – This five-year-old was noted recording a (103) speed figure from a car park draw last time out behind Ferrybank. That was his first decent effort on the clock, and he also endured a four wide trip that day. While it may appear that the form hasn’t been franked yet, both Trishuli River and Fleetfootsoldier have performed well under less than ideal conditions. Jack Cleary takes the ride again for today’s (5.15) Dundalk, and it will be interesting to see if trainer Aidan Anthony Howard’s son of Awtaad can take another step forward.

Musical Tribute (6F Hcap) – Dream Today’s win over C&D on the 19th January looks a strong piece of form for today’s (5.45) Dundalk, and the nine-year-old has been well found by the market as the current 5/2 favourite. The selection finished in fourth place that day beaten just one and a quarter lengths, and looks a more appealing prospect. With a better draw, four pounds better off at the weights, and at four times the price she looks worth a sporting interest for today’s contest. A similar case can be made for Collective Power, but I went with Musical Tribute who has managed to finish ahead of him the last twice.

Johnny Boom (9F 104Y Hcap) – This Shaun Lycett trained six-year-old had a very productive all-weather season last year picking up four victories along the way. A recent fourth place behind Haku, over the extended twelve furlongs at this venue, may look like the handicapper is finally getting to grips with him. However, there are signs, even off a handicap mark of 74, that there may be more to come in tonight’s (8.30) Wolverhampton. His seventh placed finish behind English Spirit over this C&D last March, may not appear much at first glance. A (107) speed figure carrying 9st 7lbs, however, tells us that he still has a few pounds up his sleeve. Indeed, that race has seen multiple winners come out of it since, and the selection won his next race off a mark of 72. His most recent performance showed him to be in decent form, considering the first three home that day were in the first four positions at the two furlong marker, and he came from further back than ideal. He looks worth an interest today from a decent draw, under jockey Danny Tudhope, who has won on him before.
