Today’s Advice

Kal Barg (5F 212Y Hcap) – Ex-Australian trainer Michael Costa has made a strong impression at Jebel Ali racecourse since arriving there to train for Sheikh Ahmed in 2022. A 32% strike rate with thoroughbreds, since he has arrived, has recently been elevated to 40% when taking the current season into consideration alone. Today looks like being another profitable one for the stable with strong entries across the card. Three-year-old Kal Barg was raised a stone by the handicapper when easily taking his maiden by eight and a half lengths back in December while recording a (107) speed figure over this morning’s course and distance. A step up in trip at Meydan to seven furlongs looked to be another successful one for the team, when the selection took up the running three furlongs from home, until weakening inside the final furlong. A drop back to today’s trip for the (10.45) Jebel Ali should see him in a better light, and he looks worth a sporting interest to continue his progress back at sprint distances.

Turjman (6F 211Y Conditions) – This three-year-old looks to have at least 6lb in hand over his rivals for today’s (12.15) Jebel Ali according to the handicapper, and he also holds the top speed figure of (106) recorded when easily taking a conditions race over six furlongs at today’s venue in January. A return to the track six days later for the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas over the mile at Meydan may have come too quick for the son of Mitole, and he should find today’s contest much more suitable.

Makfoul (9F 153Y Hcap) – This five-year-old recorded the highest speed figure of today’s rivals when coming home three quarters of a length clear of a revitalised Ghost Of The Mambo over course and distance. On that occasion he was drawn on the wide outside and endured a three wide trip into the straight. He could be noted travelling nicely behind leader Cosmic Desert, and showed fine determination to win his race inside the final furlong. Another wide draw in stall 15 today is not ideal, but he looks to represent a bit of value when compared to current favourite Alhzeem who has drawn stall 16. He looks worth a small interest to see if he can continue his current improvement at this venue.
