Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt e/way Aljezur (97) – A long way from his strong (105) Kempton effort on the clock. It looks like the recorded self certs point to bigger physical issues than may appear on first look.
0.75pt e/way So Chic (99) – It looked like the Rabinal formline from last month was the key one, and so it proved. Unfortunately, on this occasion the selection was given way too much to do by jockey George Rooke from last place. She performed with great credit managing to pass all bar three rivals in the final two furlongs. Result 4th 15/2 adv….15/2 SP.
0.75pt e/way Dequinto (90) – The slowest race on the card which would not have played to the selection’s strengths. It was hoped that Red Walls might put other prominent racer Hannah’s Return (92) under more pressure earlier on, but that never happened. The winner had it all her own way out in front. Dequinto made up good ground in the straight from the rear, but came up a neck short of the places. His turn should come soon in a more properly run contest.
1pt e/way Drakeholes (100) – An improved performance under more restrained tactics with the selection just failing by a neck to make up a lot of ground on the winner Broxi (101) who made all the running. I would have preferred a more forward ride under the prevailing wind conditions. His turn should come soon. Result 2nd 8/1 adv…5/1 SP.
Today’s Advice
American In Paris (5F Hcap) – This four-year-old filly has dropped to a pound below her last winning mark of 56 when she finished ahead of Not Too Real Bad and Asgard’s Captain over six furlongs at this venue last April. Apprentice Sean Bowen takes the ride again, and she looks a little overpriced for today’s (4.40) Dundalk at a double figure price over today’s minimum trip. She may prove best over six furlongs, but looks worth trying over the shorter trip on polytrack considering her prominent running style. The time of her most recent effort reads well, and it will be interesting to see how she performs at today’s first attempt over five furlongs on the all-weather.
Warminster (5F Hcap) – This front running four-year-old looks worth a try over tonight’s shorter trip of five furlongs for the (7.00) Newcastle following some decent efforts over six furlongs recently. He tried to make all into a decent headwind last time out before weakening over a furlong from home when finishing behind the Jim Goldie trained Rory. He looks well treated on 8lb better terms on his form with Alafdhal from January at Wolverhampton when beaten just a neck. With a tailwind forecast for tonight’s contest, and not much pace on paper, he looks worth a small interest to go close.
Shoot To Kill (8F Hcap) – Readers of this column will recall this horse doing us a favour at 18/1 over the mile at Lingfield last September from a handicap mark of 74. He has been performing well since then for trainer Robyn Brisland, finishing second behind Smoky Mountain over the extended seven furlongs at Wolverhampton from a handicap mark of 76. He has since been transferred to the more than capable stable of Ado McGuinness, who is a trainer to take note of when acquiring horses from other stables. Past acquisitions such as Hodd’s Girl, Go Athletico, Harry’s Bar and Real Appeal, to mention just a few, show that this trainer should be taken very seriously when a horse is having it’s first run for the stable. The selection looks worth a sporting interest for tonight’s (7.15) Dundalk with apprentice Adam Caffrey on board (who has also been aboard Real Appeal and Hodd’s Girl’s first run for the stable when winning).
0.5pt e/way American In Paris (12/1 Paddy Power/Boyles 11/1 others 4 places) 4.40 Dundalk
0.75pt e/way Warminster (8/1 General 4 places) 7.00 Newcastle
0.75pt e/way Shoot To Kill (6/1 General 4 places) 7.15 Dundalk
