Today’s Advice

Mystical Power (16F 87Y Supreme Novice Hurdle Grade 1) – This five-year-old has recorded my top speed figure of (115) for today’s (1.30) Cheltenham when taking a Grade 2 hurdle with an impressive turn of foot at Punchestown on Soft ground in January by seven lengths from Jigoro. It should be noted that he is not the most fluent of jumpers, and that  market rival Tullyhill beat the second by even further at the same venue. The selection has yet to race on a left handed track, and although he has looked impressive so far we are still learning about this horse.

Trelawne (3M 1F Ultima Handicap Chase) – This lightly raced eight-year-old should relish the step up in trip for today’s (2.50) Cheltenham. A winner over a trip just shy of three miles at Uttoxeter over hurdles on a Soft surface, he has been surprisingly campaigned at shorter trips so far during his career over fences. He gave an indication of his talents when only going down by three and three quarter lengths over the extended two mile five furlong trip at this venue behind Ginny’s Destiny and Grey Dawning. This represents excellent form with both horses towards the front of the market for the Grade 1 Turners Novice’s Chase this Thursday. The selection looked extremely unlucky not to go one better in the Grade 2 Towton Novices’ Chase at Wetherby losing many lengths when hanging to his right on the bend when passing the stands. The application of cheekpieces saw a more controlled performance at Exeter behind Crebilly, and it is hoped that the step up in trip can show him in an even better light today.

Ring Of Gold (8F 13Y Hcap) – This seven-year-old has seen his form improve sinec the re-application of blinkers the last twice over the extended seven furlongs at Wolverhampton. As a hold up performer he will need a decent pace to aim at for today’s (4.38) Southwell, and with Luna Magic and Possible Ambition in today’s field he should get that. Jockey Serena Brotherton is one of the more experienced jockey’s in today’s contest, and he looks worth a small interest looking at his strong course form behind Airshow and Zealot.

Flash The Dash (6F Hcap) – Julie Camacho has shown her talents with regards to training sprinters over her career, and it looks like she has managed to get this five-year old’s career back on track since taking him back home from Michael Dods. Formerly rated 87 by the handicapper, he managed to get his head in front for the first time in two and a half years over this course and distance last month. As a hold up performer he likes to make late gains in the latter half of his races, and the race went according to plan for him when he managed to get his head in front by a neck from May Remain on that occasion. A slowly run race wouldn’t have suited him last time out, but he still managed to finish second behind Athollblair Boy. He still looks nicely treated from a handicap mark of 61 for tonight’s (7.15) Newcastle, and should get the pace he needs with The Gay Blade and Russco in opposition.

Seven Brothers (7F 14Y Hcap) – This Scott Dixon trained six-year-old showed plenty on the clock last time out over an inadequate six furlongs at this venue following a 231 day break. The handicapper has seen fit to drop him another 2lbs to a mark of 67 for tonight’s (8.30) Southwell over the extended seven furlongs, and he looks worth a small interest at a double figure price to build on his most recent effort. On that occasion he finished in fifth place just behind recent improver Billyjoh beaten three and a half lengths. The second Grenham Bay has since come out and won, so the form has a solid look to it. His last winning effort came over the extended seven furlongs at Doncaster from a handicap mark of 84, and he should be finding the winner’s enclosure sooner rather than later, providing all is well with him.
