Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Galician Girl (104) – It was encouraging to see the promise shown by the selection in her comeback effort come to fruition here with a five length superior performance on the clock than her previous effort. More often than not when fillies are selected at the prices I am looking for (last month’s average price was over 9/1) they can struggle to maintain the consistency needed. Galician Girl was able to find a much better position this time, from the kinder draw, and she powered clear when asked for her effort at the furlong marker. As noted in the write-up she looks to have great substance about her, and it will be interesting to monitor her progress going forward. Result 1st 13/2 adv…7/1 SP

1pt win Water Of Leith (110) – Everything appeared to be in the selection’s favour on paper before the event. A hold up performer with a headwind in the straight, and plenty of pace in the race to aim at. However, horse and jockey exited the stalls like a rocket, and were pressing the leaders from the start. The fact he was able to stick to his task, and finish best of the prominent racers in third place gives great credit to the horse. Jockey Paul Mulrennan reported that the blindfold became stuck on the bridle when leaving the stalls. An opportunity missed under suitable conditions.

Today’s Advice

Moonlit Cloud (10F 43Y Hcap) – This six-year-old mare has been a very consistent performer for connections with two wins during her turf campaign last season. One of those wins was on Heavy ground over the extended ten furlongs at Nottingham from a hadicap mark of 59 on seasonal debut. Conditions for today’s (4.45) Doncaster should hold no fears for her, and she has shown in her recent all-weather performances that she can still be very competitive from her current handicap mark of 69. She was positioned poorly in her most recent start at Kempton where a prominent position looked to be needed. With a headwind up the straight today we will be hoping that her apprentice jockey Ethan Jones can get cover in behind prominent racers Natchez Trace and Franco Grasso. She looks worth a small interest to reproduce her consistent turf efforts from last season.
