Today’s Advice
Jancis (7f 35y Gp3) – This three-year-old filly made an impressive debut both on the clock (112) and visually when making up a lot of ground from the rear over course and distance to take her maiden by 2 3/4 lengths. Second day at school can be a totally different experience, but there looks to be enough in her price to warrant a sporting interest in the (6.15) Leopardstown. Hopefully Curvature can set a fair pace with prominent racers such as Thornbook and Pink Sorrel racing close enough to keep her honest. It will be interesting to see if she can take a step forward from her impressive debut tonight.
Inconspicuous (6f Novice) – Formerly trained by Ollie Pears, this two-year-old gelding looks worth an interest against the favourite for tonight’s (6.25) Newbury judging by a decent performance on the clock (102) in the Rous Selling Stakes last time out at York. He was sold to the Gay Kelleway stable for £29,000, and a reproduction of that effort should keep the short priced favourite Brian honest who will be looking to build on his recent third place finish at Royal Ascot.
Giuseppe Cassioli (8f Hcap) – It has been over two years since this seven-year-old gelding was transferred from the UK to race in Ireland. A record of two wins and six places from fifteen starts would indicate that he has been enjoying his time on the Emerald Isle. Indeed, he has hit a decent vein of form lately, and looks worth a play to get the better of one of his old rival’s Ferrybank in tonight’s (6.50) Leopardstown. In order for this to happen he will need plenty of pressure applied to the likely favourite from other front runners such as Eastern Wind. If Billy Lee’s mount can be softened up enough from the front the selection should go close to reversing his seasonal debut course and distance form from May with the favourite.
Conquest Of Power (7f 3y Hcap) – This improving four-year-old performed well enough following a fourty five day break last time out at Ffos Las to warrant an interest in tonight’s (7.50) Epsom. He has been very impressive prior to that effort on the all-weather, and his latest performance shows that he can also be competitive enough on Turf going forward. His trainer, Mark Usher, has found a weak enough race for him tonight, and the main question mark for me will be tonight’s ground. I have a feeling he wouldn’t want it too soft, so stakes will be kept low, and we will learn a lot more about him tonight. Providing conditions are suitable, he looks a little overpriced at the prices on offer.
Init Together (9f Hcap) – Seamus Fahey’s six-year old made a decent enough seasonal debut last time out, following a 262 day break at Limerick, to warrant a small interest in for tonight’s (8.00) Leopardstown. On that occasion he looked like he was going to weaken away quickly in the home straight after racing prominently early on, but was noted keeping on well enough at the finish. Rated just four pounds above the handicap mark he held when beaten a nose from a wide draw last season over course and distance, any improvement on his most recent effort should see him in the mix for tonight’s contest.
