Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt /eway Vidisha (93) – A slowly run race where it paid to be racing prominently. The winner was given an excellent proactive ride leading after three furlongs and making the rest of the running. As it was an apprentice race a lot of the riders are still learning their trade. I felt this was a race that could easily have gone our way had the jockey been more proactive on his mount and concentrated on his finish more. In the end the line came a short head too soon. Result 2nd 20/1, 18/1 adv…10/1 SP.

0.5pt e/way Tatateo (87) – The slowest race on the card. The pace that we were hoping for on paper never materialised with Siempre Arturo (91) missing the break at the start, and racing from the rear. The selection performed with credit, considering the lack of pace in the race, finishing in fourth and was gambled on into 11/1 from 18/1.

Today’s Advice

Puturhandstogether (10f Hcap) – This lightly raced three-year-old looked unlucky not to get his head in front last time out following a fifty three day break from the track. Held up out the back, he found the line coming a stride too soon over Gowran Park’s extended nine furlong trip when going down by a neck to Tachos. The form of the race has been advertised since with the third place finisher Courageous Strike winning over twelve furlongs at The Curragh recently. He meets that rival on three pound better terms for today’s (4.50) Curragh. We will be hoping for a decent pace from Gibbs Island for him to aim at, and the extra half furlong for today’s contest should see him in a better light.

Woodstock (7f 6y Hcap) – This Ruth Carr trained four-year-old has really started to improve on the clock recently since cheekpieces have been applied winning his most recent race at Newbury over today’s trip. He likes a decent pace to aim at and we will be hoping that prominent racers Summer Of Love and Liamarty Dreams ensure a truly run race for tonight’s (7.45) Doncaster. He is still lightly raced on Turf, having just his ninth race in that code today, and he looks a shade overpriced by the market.

Kodebreaker (7f 213y Hcap) – A return to a mile for tonight’s (8.45) Doncaster should see a much better performance from this five-year-old who was very impressive over this distance at Yarmouth ten days ago. On that occasion he came home unchallenged by seven lengths, having been held up, racing from a handicap mark of just 47. The handicapper has raised him eight pounds to a new mark of 55, but he has won from a three pound higher mark in the past. The ground was described as Good To Soft that day with winning times eight lengths per mile slower than standard. With the ground advertised as Good To Soft (Good in places) with very little rain around, I would expect the ground to be riding on the quicker side of good come race time. He has decent form on a quicker surface in the past, and we will be hoping for a decent pace to aim at from prominent racers Crown’s Lady and Due Consideration.
