Starsoftheclock Thursday 25th July 2024 Selections And Review

25th July, 2024 @ 10:11am

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Without Delay (97) – A race where the front runners rode a very clever race ensuring that they didn’t go overly fast up front. Beltane and Swinging Eddie raced in the first three positions up the home straight and came home first and second. The selection performed with credit, racing prominently and securing the place money in a race which was not run to suit. Result 4th 9/1, 17/2 adv…8/1 SP.

0.75pt e/way Skillman Ave (91) – The selection regressed from his debut effort over course and distance. The winning times on the straight course were twenty lengths per mile slower than standard, and despite having just 1.5mm of rain it looked like the ground was overwatered to me. Second day at school is always a difficult one to know how a horse can react, and this one regressed on the slower ground.

1pt e/way Albeseeingyer (99) – A disappointing performance from the selection who raced keen early on as she can, but couldn’t find an extra gear in the race to the finish. The pace angle that appeared on paper with Inherit and Get The Music On never developed with both horses racing keenly and being restrained. Perhaps another chance could be given to the selection in a race with more early pace.

0.5pt e/way Ash Wednesday (89) – The selection failed to build on his solid effort from seven days ago, and it remains to be seen if this race came too soon, or he is still a long way from being the finished article yet. I would be leaning towards the latter at this stage.

Today’s Advice

Anglo Saxson (7f 213y Hcap) – Trainer Patrick Owens has done a fine job with this horse since acquiring him from Fergal Birrane in 2022. Four wins from a starting handicap mark of 50 have been achieved, and it could be argued that the seven-year-old’s best performance came last time out behind Royal Velvet at Yarmouth beaten just three quarters of a length. The selection normally races prominently during his races, but missed the break on that occasion before coming home nicely after not getting the clearest of runs. The second placed horse that day Salamanca City has won again since, and with prominent racers Copper And Five and Back From Dubai in today’s (4.45) Doncaster, there should be enough pace for Paul Mulrennan’s mount to aim at.

Mostaawa (8f 3y Hcap) – This prominent racing eight-year-old has been performing with credit as of late having finished third the last twice. He has dropped five pounds below his last winning mark for tonight’s (6.30) Yarmouth, and improving apprentice Jack Doughty takes another valuable five pounds off. There doesn’t appear to be too much competition for the lead in tonight’s contest, and everything looks set up for the selection to find the winner’s enclosure for the first time since last summer.

Midair (10f 23y Hcap) – The return to ten furlongs should suit this unexposed three-year-old for tonight’s (8.30) Yarmouth. He looked to be coming with a strong challenge in the home straight two runs back at Ascot, but was denied a clear run behind Too Bossy For Us before staying on well at the finish. Last time out, in a Novice event over the mile at Windsor, he tried to make all the running in a race that was the fastest on the card that night, but was just worried out of the finish by the winner T’Challa. Despite still being a maiden, he looks well treated from a handicap mark of 84 for tonight’s (8.30) Yarmouth, and Sean Bowen’s three pound alowance will see him racing off just eight stone. There is the worry of the fourty five day absence from the track, and it will be interesting to see what tactics are employed tonight. For those reasons a small win bet will be advised, as he looks the type that could be a hit or a miss.
