Starsoftheclock Wednesday 31st July 2024 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Lord Warburton (89) – Looked the value beforehand having been backed from 11/1 into 17/2. Unfortunately, he couldn’t match his previous two efforts and found very little under pressure in the home straight.

1pt win Jamih (97) – The each way prices went early on this one, and a small win looked the way to go considering the opposition. He couldn’t reproduce his form when finishing ahead of the winner Dr Rio (101) last time out who looked to relish the step up in trip despite being 0-5 at the distance in the past.

0.75pt e/way Imperial Express (100) – The ground dried out very quickly at Goodwood yesterday with two going changes during the day. By the time this race came around the ground was almost twice as fast as the previous races on the card, which wouldn’t have suited the selection. She will be worth another chance on a softer surface going forward.

0.5pt e/way Idyllic (80) – The selection looked the each way alternative to the short priced favourite, which the market shut down fairly early from 9/2 into 9/4. Con Te Partiro (83) raced prominently at a very moderate pace, and the selection had too much ground too make up from her position. Result 3rd 9/2, 4/1 adv…9/4 SP.

Today’s Advice

Elemental Eye (10f 1y Hcap) – This three-year-old caught the eye last time out when not getting the clearest of runs at Haydock before recording a career best (106) speed figure on the clock over the extended ten furlongs. As a hold-up performer we will be hoping for a decent pace from Tessy Lad and prominent racer Epidavros for today’s (3.15) Redcar. The handicapper has raised him two pounds for that effort, but he still looks ahead of his mark judged on his most recent effort. Up and coming apprentice Mohammed Tabti retains the ride, and his experience of the gelding having ridden him the last twice should hold him in good stead. Dangers include Eeetee who has shown a liking for this track in the past, and the favourite See That Storm who has yet to race on Turf.

Power Of Destiny (9f 197y Hcap) – It looks like trainer Sir Michael Stoute has found the right race for this unexposed three-year-old with plenty of her opposition struggling to find solid form at the moment for today’s (4.10) Goodwood. Her recent two efforts on the clock have her at the top of the rankings for today’s contest, and she looks nicely weighted with just nine stone two pounds on her back. This is a different track to Haydock and Nottingham, but we can take a positive note from her dam Rux Power who placed at this venue in 2018. As it is her first handicap today stakes will be kept low as we are still learning about her. Oisin Murphy takes the ride who rode Jouncy to victory at the track yesterday.

Adrestia (5f 10y Nursery) – An opening handicap mark of 82 for tonight’s (6.20) Sandown looks lenient for this two-year-old filly who impressed last time out at Yarmouth when travelling smoothly over the extended five furlong trip before coming home a length and three quarters to the good over La Bellota. It is interesting that she was given a similar Racing Post Rating of 79 to Blue Zodiac who won seven days previously at the track. A comparison of the two using the TPD sectional timing performances on the Attheraces website to the three furlong point and final two furlongs with my going allowances of (+0.06 secs/furlong) for Adrestia, and (+0.20 secs/furlong) for Blue Zodiac reads as follows:

Blue Zodiac (38.77)(23.91), Adrestia (38.83)(22.89)

She has been well found by the market as the favourite today, but still warrants a bet to see if she can build on her excellent maiden win.
