0.75pt e/way All Agleam (100) – A solid enough performance from the selection to reach the frame, but a disappointing effort on the clock compared to her two previous runs over this course and distance which were five lengths per mile faster. I wouldn’t put it all down to the pace of the race either. Result 3rd 11/2 adv…9/2 SP.
Today’s Advice
Padishakh (7f 192y Hcap) – This ex-French trained gelding has some solid back class in Listed and Group races from last year, but had since lost his way. He now finds himself in the David O’Meara yard via Roger Varian, and there have been signs the last twice that he may be back to himself. A fourth place finish at Ripon was a real eye-catcher when staying on nicely behind Watcha Matey both on the clock (108) and on the replay. I was reluctant to let him pass the last day at Ayr on account of the fast ground, and was lucky that the race didn’t go his way. He flew home just failing by a neck behind a much more prominently ridden rival in Aragon Castle. It is hoped that the Soft (Heavy) ground conditions will be more to his liking for today’s (1.30) York, and if he can reproduce any of his two previous efforts he should be in the mix at the business end of the race.
On The River/Onemorenomore (7f Hcap) – The former selection is a five-year old mud lover who has been performing adequately on a faster surface recently, and is now back on the same handicap mark that his last win in July at Ripon came from. The key to him appears to be the softer ground, and most of his winning efforts are when the mud is flying. With conditions very much on the Soft side for today’s (4.55) York he looks the right price for a speculative interest. Onemorenomore has been waiting for this distance and ground combination since his win at Doncaster back in April from Mister Sox. Effectively seven pounds lower today taking apprentice Ethan Jones’ five pound claim into consideration, he should feel like he is running loose with just eight stone eight pounds on his back.
