Starsoftheclock Saturday 12th October 2024 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Padishakh (96) – The selection failed to handle the Soft conditions, which was unusual for a horse with decent form in a Group 3 in France on Very Soft. The stewards report read : Following the race, the representative of David O’Meara reported that PADISHAKH (FR), unplaced, was unsuited by the Going, which was officially described as Soft, Heavy in places and would appreciate a quicker surface.

0.5pt e/way On The River (105) – A return to form from the selection who relished being back on his favourite ground. He was a bit short of room in the home straight, but found his stride near the finish to win by two lengths. The odds compilers got this one wrong, and he was the best backed horse in the race eventually going off favourite. There could be another one of these in him on this ground. Result 1st 20/1, 18/1 adv…11/2F SP.

0.75pt e/way Onemorenomore (96) – A disappointing performance from the selection who found himself a bit too far back in the early stages of the race, and couldn’t get the clearest of runs in the home straight. It would be unwise to say this was the main reason for the below par effort.

Today’s Advice

Room Service (6f Hcap) – This three-year-old’s performance at Pontefract on Soft going in July looks the best on the clock (112) for today’s (2.40) York. He was slowly away that day, and had to make his ground up on the inside of the track, which wouldn’t have been the best place to be. His best form appears to be when the ground has plenty of cut in it. He should appreciate the return to his favoured ground following wind surgery, and an eleventh place finish in the Ayr Gold Cup on a lightning quick surface. There is a chance that he is not the same horse following his operation, so stakes will be kept low.

Our Mighty Mo (7f 192y Nursery) – This Karl Burke trained two-year-old recorded a (104) speed figure at Haydock when winning last time out over the extended seven furlongs on a soft surface by a length from Tactical Plan. He appreciated the step up in trip from six furlongs that day under apprentice Sam Feilden. It looked like the runner-up had his measure in the finish, but it was noticeable how much the selection battled back to win nicely in the end. The extra one hundred and fifty five yards are a bit of a step into the unknown, but at the prices on offer he looks worth a sporting interest. That performance rates the highest on the clock of today’s field, and it would appear that he has plenty in his favour.

Wilde And Dandy (7f Hcap) – A return to this course and distance should play into the hands of Ivan Furtado’s four-year-old for today’s (4.45) Chelmsford, and he is only having his third run of the season, having just returned to action in August. His two recent efforts on turf need a lot of improving on, but his two best efforts from last season came over this course and distance. A reproduction of his half length win from Touchwood, or his runner-up finish from Dagmar Run last December would see him dangerously well handicapped form a mark of just 59 today. I am willing to allow him his most recent effort on a soft surface, and his seasonal debut following a two hundred and thirty nine day absence. There is the chance that he is simply not the same horse this season, but at the prices on offer I am willing to take that chance.
