Today’s Advice
Plains Indian (14f Hcap) – This eight-year-old caught the eye when running on well over this course and distance on Heavy ground last October behind Rodney Bay. On that occasion he raced at the rear, and was given plenty to do, before finishing nicely down the outside to be beaten just two and a half lengths. That was just his fifth effort on the Flat, but he is more known for his exploits over hurdles where he has won a Listed race, and is rated 127 by the handicapper. He has had a stop-start campaign on the Flat this season with just three efforts, without looking dangerous. However, his last two races have come on genuinely Good ground, and we know that he is the type that appreciates a bit of cut in the ground. With conditions for today’s (4.10) Curragh advertised as Yielding, with scattered showers around, it looks like he should be more at home in today’s contest. A handicap mark of 67 should be well within his compass, and recent winning stable apprentice jockey Sam Coen’s ten pound allowance should be a real help in today’s ground. He looks worth a sporting interest at the prices on offer.
Pink Oxalis (7f Hcap) – Trainer Joseph Murphy’s three-year-old grey filly is the joint most unexposed horse in today’s competitive thirty runner handicap with just four career starts under her belt. She was noted making late headway over a trip too short last time out at Cork, and should appreciate the step up in trip for today’s (4.45) Curragh. That was her first race in one hundred and one days, and she already looks competitive judging by that effort alone from today’s handicap mark of 62. Any improvement at all from the last day should see her bang in the mix at the business end of this contest. She should appreciate being on a softer surface today judging by how she travels through her races, and she might be a little bit overpriced looking at today’s markets.
Glamorous Express (6f 16y Hcap) – This five-year-old is well known to racing viewers having had fifteen outings already this season. He came to the attention of clock watchers back in March when winning two races on the all-weather at Kempton and Newcastle, before not getting the clearest of runs when finishing fifth over course and distance behind One More Dream. He has been hitting the frame over extended five furlong trips lately on Turf, and should appreciate the return to six furlongs for tonight’s (6.30) Southwell. A handicap mark of 68 is just one pound above his last winning mark, and as a hold-up performer he will be hoping for a bit of pace from prominent racers such as Strong Johnson and Fiscal Policy to aim at.
