Starsoftheclock Sunday 20th October 2024 Selections And Review

20th October, 2024 @ 10:03am

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Jachin (102) – An identical effort on the clock to his third place finish at Redcar recently. A great bit of training from Craig Lidster who I spoke very strongly about in the preview. He raced prominently, and wore down the short priced favourite inside the final furlong. These types of bets are the bread and butter of punters who are looking for solid each way selections that can put it up to the short priced favourite. Result 1st 13/2, 6/1 adv..5/1 SP.

0.75pt e/way Tiffany (110) – A decent effort from the selection to hit the frame, but I’m wondering now if she really wants the ground this Soft. The winner Kalpana (114) was very impressive on the softer ground, and it will be interesting to see if she can match Bluestocking’s 2024 exploits next year for the same owners. Result 3rd 17/2, 15/2 adv…13/2 SP.

0.75pt e/way Three Dons (105) – A similar situation to the first bet of the day where the gap between the favourite in the betting and our selection was too big. Molly Gunn had this five-year-old closer to the pace today, and it paid dividends on the soft surface as she loomed up menacingly to the odds-on favourite Small Fry (103) in the home straight before going clear to win by two lengths at the finish. Result 1st 13/2…11/2 SP.

1pt win Vintage Clarets (109) – It was nice to see the early morning favourite travel so well throughout the race before putting matters to bed inside the furlong. The starting price of 5/1 was a big surprise, and it was a particularly pleasing result considering I had selected the horse that was backed into favouritism Wen Moon at Pontefract, but had been a bit underwhelmed by his finishing efforts when I really studied his videos more deeply. Result 1st 3/1 adv…5/1 SP.

0.75pt e/way Apache Canyon (97) – Unfortunately, Darragh Keenan’s mount had an off-day, and ran four lengths per mile slower than his most recent start. It looked to me like the affects of having a seventh race in seventy nine days proved too much for the son of Kessaar. There should be a little race in him when he recovers.

Today’s Advice

Red Trail (10f Hcap) – Ten furlongs with cut in the ground would appear to be the ideal conditions for this five-year-old mare. With 5mm of rain overnight the going for today’s (4.10) Leopardstown is currently advertised as Heavy. Andrew McNamara’s mare has been performing well enough recently to warrant an interest, and she meets last week’s Naas winner Bear Profit on four pound better terms for a length and a quarter beating. Gerard O’Leary’s five-year-old got first run on our selection that day, but is drawn in the car park today in stall twenty one. The softer ground should also play more into the hands of our selection. A win on Heavy ground at Down Royal last year also bodes well for Wesley Joyce’s mount today. The quick turnaround of seven days is something to be aware of, so stakes will be kept low just in case.
