Storm Eric (7f Hcap) – This five-year-old has yet to return to past form this season, and was given a 105 day break following an unplaced effort over course and distance in July. He raced the last twice without his usual tongue, which is back on for today’s (1.50) Dundalk, and the handicapper has dropped him 3lbs following his latest unplaced effort over the mile round here. It may well be that he is simply not the force of last season, but i thought he was very tenderly handled last time out in rear under apprentice Rory Mulligan. In a race won by Tribal Moon, it looked a disadvantage to be held up off the pace as the first two home raced prominently. He looks the right price for a speculative interest to take a bigger step forward today under jockey Robbie Colgan.

Harvard Sound (8f Hcap) – The step up to the mile for today’s (5.30) Kempton looks worth exploring for this lightly raced three-year-old following a staying on effort over seven furlongs last time out at Southwell. On that occasion he was dropped out to the rear, from his wide draw in stall thirteen, before making headway in the straight and running on well at the finish to take third place behind Run Boy Run. The (107) speed figure recorded indicated that the Tom Clover trained gelding is ahead of the handicapper at the moment. A second place finish at this course over seven furlongs on career debut shows the selection’s ability to act round here. A kind draw in stall two should help his cause, and we will be hoping jockey Jason Watson can secure a decent position. The main danger would appear to be the short priced favourite Roi De France whose effort behind James Webb at Yarmouth scored highly on the clock. At the prices on offer it looks like the selection should be a bit closer in the betting to the favourite.
