Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Pockley (92) – The selection failed to reproduce his latest run, and backed out of contention quickly as if something was amiss over a furlong from home. It remains to be seen if he can return to his previous best.
0.75pt e/way Dark Kestrel (103) – A poor selection from myself. I had The Ridler as one of the fastest performers on his latest effort, and passed him over as I thought he might get involved in a pace duel. Harry Russel’s mount does himself no favours as he races too keenly, and needs too much to go right in races.
0.5pt e/way Too Much (104) – An excellent performance from the filly, as she met trouble in running, and put up a career best on the clock. It was a big effort coming just eight days after her most recent run. The winner Beale Street (106) was the obvious one in the betting, and so it proved. He may be able to defy a small rise in the weights going forward. Result 3rd 17/2 adv…10/1 SP.
Today’s Advice
Pink Oxalis (7f Hcap) – The return to seven furlongs and application of first time cheekpieces should see an improved performance from the Stephen Thorne trained filly in tonight’s (6.25) Dundalk. Last time out she travelled best over the mile, but didn’t find as much as expected at the business end of the race. That was her first run for her new trainer who has placed 41% (16-39) of his horses in the first three since he started training this season, with three of those finding the winner’s enclosure (Shoot To Kill, Sayifyouwill and Never Shout Never). It looks a competitive low grade handicap with plenty of the contestants struggling for consistency.
Bishopton (8f 2yo) – Trainer Miss Natalia Lupini’s two-year-olds have had a productive 2024 with 34% of them (16-47) reaching the first three places, and seven of those finding the winner’s enclosure including Rebel Diamond who won the Listed Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse in September. The selection performed with credit last time out on stable debut over course and distance just going down by a neck to the David Marnane trained Ja’marr (98). The ex-Olly Murphy trained gelding raced prominently on that occasion, and kept on well to the line recording a (97) speed figure, and looks worth an interest for tonight’s (6.55) Dundalk. Likely favourite Empress Artemis won nicely on career debut over course and distance, but Wayne Lordan’s mount looks a solid alternative at the prices.
Trishuli River/Jazz Forever (10f 150y Hcap) – This four-year-old filly was very impressive when winning over course and distance last month by an easy two and a half lengths from Eighty Eight. The handicapper has reacted with an 11lb hike in the weights which should give the runner-up a chance to get closer. However, the selection travelled extremely well, and showed a turn of foot at the business end of the race rarely seen in (47-65) handicaps. Jazz Forever could provide the most danger to the selection having won nicely over this course and distance back in April. He raced with the leader that day before taking up the running two furlongs from home and coming clear by two and a quarter lengths from Numidia, who has won twice since. He has been quiet on turf this season, but might appreciate the return to tonight’s surface and looks the right price for a sporting interest.
