Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Blackstone Cliff (89) – Jockey Elle-May Croot reported that the gelding hung left throughout. He looked a different horse yesterday, and never went forward with any purpose throughout the whole contest beaten over twenty lengths. We were right to take on the favourite Come On John (101) who still ran very well but found an improved performance on the clock from Jujubella (105) too much to overcome.

Today’s Advice

Light Up Our Stars (8f 13y Hcap) – This nine-year-old gelding has been racing from career low handicap marks lately, and showed enough last time out from a wide draw at Wolverhampton to warrant a sporting interest back at the venue where he was last successful. Jockey Joey Haynes had to use up a bit of petrol early on to take up a decent position from stall twelve, and had to quicken again at the business end of the race when taking up the running over a furlong from home. The winner Boujee Gold (105) won nicely on the night, and the second placed Forever Proud (104) has won since. With a better draw in stall three for tonight’s (8.30) Southwell, and Joey Haynes on board again, everything looks right for another solid effort. Drifts Away and Embarked should provide a decent pace to aim at, and if the son of Rip Van Winkle is in the same form tonight he should be in the shake up at the finish. Dangers include recent Wolverhampton winner Tea Sea who has been well found by the market, and Chelmsford eye-catcher Jaamir who returned from a 93 day break with a decent effort from a wide draw and is back out fifteen days later.
