Today’s Advice
Azzouz/Naayif (7f PA Hcap) – The favourite for today’s (1.30) Meydan Af Tharwaty has been improving nicely lately, and won a similar class race over today’s distance at Al Ain recording a (55) speed figure when wearing down Easy Lap in the home straight from a decent draw in stall four last time out. A wide draw in stall eleven should make things more difficult for the favourite, and a stronger piece of form on the clock from Sharjah over the 1700 metres distance involves the two selections. On that occasion Azzouz was very impressive when putting up a (61) speed figure on the clock from a wide draw in stall thirteen, with Naayif (55) over five lengths back in second having raced from stall eleven. There is the danger that today’s race may come a bit soon for the selections just twelve days later, but at the prices and with Naayif better drawn in stall five, they look a bit of value against the favourite.
Haasim (6f) – Today’s (3.50) Meydan lacks strong recent turf form on the clock over today’s distance. The selection’s second place finish over course and distance behind Ashger Asser last February looks a decent effort in comparison with today’s rivals. On that occasion he was held up for a late run before finishing well going down by just a half a length. The cheekpieces were applied two runs back at Jebel Ali where he ran an excellent race over seven furlongs behind impressive winner Yotarid with the pair over eight lengths clear of the third. Last time out seven days ago he kept on well at the finish over seven furlongs on turf at this venue behind Creative Story from a wide draw in a slowly run race. Dangers today include Al Arbed who has a similar effort over six furlongs behind Vespasian last March, and Silent Defense who takes a big drop in distance from nine furlongs last time out.
Queen Azteca (8f Cns) – The selection looks held by last time out winner Flama Sunshine who prevailed by two lengths over seven furlongs on dirt at this venue. However, the Niels Petersen filly might just be able to close that gap in today’s (4.25) Meydan under a different set of conditions. She had the worst of the draw last time out in stall eleven, and was forced to race wide the whole way round. She did wander around when asked to chase down the leader in the home straight but stuck to her task well enough considering it was her first race at this track. She had won over the mile nicely the time before that at Jagersro, and with a better draw in stall one today and the step back up to the mile she looks worth a sporting interest against the favourite.
