Yesterday’s Review

1pt win Sacred Falls (105) – An excellent ride from Jason Hart saw the selection break very well from the stalls to find a position just in behind the leaders which looked to be the winning of the race. The decent pace set by Quercus suited the Katie Scott trained mare very well as the race opened up after the home turn. From there it was all a case of horse and rider’s strength and determination to grind their way to the front inside the final furlong for a one length win from the fast finishing Dream Deal (103). Result 1st 4/1, 7/2 adv…3/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

CALZAGHI (12f 100y Hcap) – This five-year-old was noted finishing best on the sectional times last time out over twelve furlongs at The Curragh on seasonal debut on Soft going when finishing in eighth place six lengths behind Leinster. The pace that day favoured those more to the front, as the winner made all on that occasion, and the selection’s effort can be upgraded. He is a lightly raced improving type, and the handicapper has left him on the same mark for tonight’s (7.02) Tipperary.

Trainer Kevin Coleman has improved the five-year-old son of Raven’s Pass with every run, and he broke his maiden tag nicely last October over ten furlongs at Navan by two and a quarter lengths from the Adrian Murray trained Special Agent. On that occasion he was slowly away, and raced in rear, before making good headway three furlongs out and responding to Robbie Colgan’s urgings to lead near the finish. A fine second place finish behind Barrogstown Girl by a neck over ten furlongs, under the welter burden of ten stone, saw his highest career Racing Post Rating of 74, and he looks set for another productive season.

The ground is officially described as Yielding to Soft with rain forecast from 6pm tonight, so it looks like the ground should not be too much of a worry. Chris Hayes takes over from Robbie Colgan, and we will be hoping that he can ride his first winner for the Kevin Coleman stable from seventeen rides since 2009. The favourite Ard Na Mara performed with credit last time out when finishing second behind Himalayan Heights over ten furlongs on Good going, and the step up to today’s distance on a softer surface may not be ideal for her.
