Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Copacabana Sands (108) – Jockey Jamie Powell rode a better race this time with more experience of the filly under his belt. A prominent position was taken up early on, and once switched outside she showed the potential we knew she had from her previous races. She battled on well to finish a half length clear of the favourite One Smack Mac (107). The Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes over seven furlongs in June at Leopardstown has been mentioned as her next target. Result 1st 7/2 adv…18/5 SP.
1.5pts win Lady Iman (106) – The big matchup between the selection, and the favourite Simply Astounding (94) never materialised. Ryan Moore’s mount was reported to have taken a false step when leaving the stalls and failed to show her true form, coming home well beaten in fifth place. Colin Keane’s mount travelled strongly, as she normally does, and although green when asked to close down the leader Green Sense (104) managed to get on top by three quarters of a length at the line. Royal Ascot has never been a favourite hunting ground for her trainer, although the Queen Mary has been mentioned. Result 1st 2/1, 15/8 adv..2/1 SP.
0.5pt e/way Carla Ridge (106) – The selection put up a fine performance just failing by a short head to finish second behind the impressive winner Babouche (110) having led over two furlongs out before weakening inside the final furlong. There should be a decent race in her with more improvement going forward.
1.5pts win Sixtygeesbaby (103) – The selection ran about four lengths per mile off his recent winning performance at Doncaster. He never looked at ease on the track, and appeared to become unbalanced when asked to quicken. This was unusual for a course and distance winner. Perhaps the ground was a bit fast for him despite winning times only being slightly over two lengths per mile faster than standard. The winner Marchogian (110) looks a real improver back on turf now, and should be followed going forward.
Today’s Advice
SACRED FALLS (5f 182y Hcap) – This consistent mare done us a favour last tiime out over six furlongs at Catterick, and the handicapper has only raised her three pounds for that effort. Winning jockey Jason Hart is on board again, and she looks worth a sporting interest considering she is already a course and distance winner in today’s class.
As a hold-up performer she likes a decent pace to aim at, and there looks to be plenty of front runners in today’s (3.30) Carlisle. True Promise, Kats Bob, A Girl Named Ivy, and Act Of Violence have all led or raced prominently in the past. She looks to have quite a bit in her favour today.
CHAVAJOD (10f 63y) – This seven-year-old has won five races throughout his career, and appears to be in decent form at the moment having won over the extended mile on Soft to Heavy going from a wide draw at Limerick recently from Loingseoir. He had dropped down in the handicap from a high of 80 last year to just 68 when winning, and he still looks competitive from a six pound higher mark.
He has performed well at tonight’s venue in the past with a win and a second place from his last two starts round here. His second place finish behind Soaring Monarch from a two pound higher mark back in July 2023 over ten furlongs would indicate that tonight’s distance should be within his reach.
Ross Coakley is on board again having won on him last time out, and a better draw in stall six tonight should help his cause. Short priced favourite Aeon’s Aegis steps up in trip having kept on over seven furlongs at Limerick recently. He misbehaved before that contest, and looks a short enough price all things considering, although trainer Joseph O’Brien employed the same preparation with recent Leopardstown winner Fortuna Vera.
1pt e/way Sacred Falls (9/2 General) 3.30 Carlisle
0.5pt e/way Chavajod (11/2 William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral) 7.10 Roscommon
