Today’s Advice
COEUR JAUNE (6f 16y Hcap) – Trust Sergei, favourite for today’s (3.17) Haydock won nicely last time out at Donacster, but his odds look a bit tight considering there could be a few improvers in today’s field.
The selection should appreciate the drop back in trip having shaped well in a decent time over seven furlongs at Leicester last time out. She travelled nicely in a prominent position, and had every chance entering the final furlong before weakening close home. The handicapper has dropped her two pounds, and the winner of that contest has gone on to perform with credit in a higher grade at Newcastle recently.
Trainer David O’Meara and jockey Danny Tudhope have a 20% strike rate (10 winners from 49 starts) with their three year olds at Haydock since 2011 when pairing up together, and won twice last season with three-year-olds Nighteyes and Miaswell.
1.5pts win MYSTICAL STORM (6f 212y Hcap) – This Julie Camacho trained three-year-old colt sits at the top of the speed chart for today’s (5.22) Haydock following a fine seasonal debut over seven furlongs at Redcar recently behind Double Parked. On that occasion he travelled strongly in touch with the leaders, and led inside the final furlong before weakening into third place near the finish. Any improvement on that effort should see him difficult to beat on what we know so far.
Dangers include Organ who still looked green at Newmarket, and the William Haggas trained handicap debutant Suhub who could leave last season’s form behind.
1pt e/way RIVER KING (8f Hcap) – The (7.20) Chelmsford looks an interesting contest with the two at the head of the market holding decent claims. Favourite Competizione improved nicely from career debut when finishing second behind cosy winner Nakeeb at Doncaster. The short priced favourite for tonight’s contest raced prominently that day and only gave best near the line.
The selection improved on the clock from seasonal debut to his latest performance when coming home five lengths behind a very impressive winner in Excellent Believe at Nottingham over the extended mile. The winner nicked a few lengths from the front in the home straight while the runner-up was in behind horses. Sean Levey’s mount put in some decent work at the finish coming home 0.47 seconds faster than the winner in the final two furlongs. He looks worth a sporting interest to take the favourite on with in tonight’s contest.
