Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt e/way Parent’s Love (104) – It was right to take on the short priced favourite La Forza (97) who could have been rusty following a 70 day break, and finished a well beaten ninth. A fine display from the selection who had competition for the lead, and had to use up a bit more energy than expected to clear two rivals on his inside. He only gave way inside the final 100 yards and managed to finish in the places. The strength of the recent Moduleconstruction/Majestic Express 6f formline was demonstrated here by the winner who had yet to win over 5f, but managed to get up near the line. Result 4th 11/1 adv…11/1 SP.
0.75pt e/way Moduleconstruction (104) – The selection performed below the level of his two recent efforts over course and distance. A better draw in stall three proved a negative as he was locked in on the rail behind the leader Young Superstar (105) who was setting a steady enough pace to suit himself. He couldn’t get out in time, and was forced to stay on the rail down the home straight. It will be interesting to see if he can return to form with a clearer passage next time out.
Today’s Advice
BUY THE DIP (7f 216y Hcap) – This Jim Boyle trained five-year-old finished second last time out over course and distance to the well handicapped Johnjay just going down by a half length. He is rated 2lbs lower than his last winning handicap mark, and looks to have a solid chance in today’s (4.02) Brighton. He raced in midfield on that occasion, and following decent headway over three furlongs from home kept on all the way to the line despite hanging to his left. Pat Cosgrave takes the ride again, and he has won three times on the selection before including once over course and distance.
Chief danger would appear to be the George Margarson trained three-year-old Noble Guest. Although he is a nine race maiden he has slowly been improving from race to race, and kept on well over the extended seven furlongs behind the David Loughnane trained This Farh last time out at Lingfield.
PROFITEER (6f Hcap) – This four-year-old course winner kept on well enough last time out over six furlongs at Redcar behind the Declan Carroll trained Willolarupi to indicate that he is ready to strike back at his favourite venue. With two course wins on a Soft surface over five furlongs last October the selection has already shown his liking for Pontefract. A seven furlong win on a Good to Firm surface at Thirsk last June also highlights his versatilty. He is rated just one pound above his last winning handicap mark, and should go well in tonight’s (8.50) Pontefract under stable jockey David Allan who has won on him before. He looks the right price for a sporting interest in a race that looks very winnable.
