Starsoftheclock Friday 3rd October 2025 Selections And Review

3rd October, 2025 @ 10:25am

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Bhean Saibhre (98) – Gambled into co-favourite she looked like she was going to finish unplaced having become outpaced before the home straight. She responded well to pressure having looked a difficult ride before keeping on well into third. Headgear has been applied before and it looks like it could be needed again. Result 3rd 11/2, 5/1 adv…10/3cf.

0.5pt e/way Sansanetti (102) – Usually in these races with plenty of lightly-raced types the “sexy” ones can prove difficult to beat. Sometimes it can prove profitable to go with the one with less appeal that has the “solid” form, and that’s what went down on this occasion. The experience of the selection proved the deciding factor as despite not getting a clear run she still managed to come home a length to the good. Result 1st 6/1 adv…11/2 SP.

Today’s Advice

SONDAD and BROSAY (6f Hcap) – The Ayr Silver Cup runner-up ran a fine race in finishing second to Candy almost two weeks ago. On that occasion he raced away from the winner in the rear to the far side and was doing his best work late on beaten just a length and three quarters. He has improved remarkably since the application of the visor back in May, and with a win and a second place finish already at today’s venue he looks worth a sporting interest. The Paul Attwater trained three-year-old is another interesting contender in today’s (4.40) Ascot. He came from the rear as well last time out over course and distance when finishing three and a half lengths ahead of the Ayr Silver Cup winner on a good to soft surface in a fast time. He looks to have turned the corner since the application of blinkers, and while he has form on today’s surface he wouldn’t want it too soft judging by his action.

RIFT VALLEY (5f Hcap) – This three-year-old filly has been an interesting recruit to the Sean Davis stable from James Fanshawe and she has dropped 12lbs in the handicap since the start of the season. Various accoutrements have been tried and although the tongue tie which was used last time out at Lingfield has been taken off today’s (5.20) Dundalk looks such a weak race that she warrants some sort of interest.

With 30 mile per hour winds forecast up the five furlong chute front runners may well be at a disadvantage for today’s contest which should suit the selection just fine so long as she races from behind like she normally does. She was noted making some nice headway last time out up the home straight from behind, and although six furlongs might be more suitable conditions look to be in her favour today with plenty of front-runners in opposition.

BY THE LAKE (5f Lstd) – A similar scenario applies to this Ger Lyons trained two-year-old filly who holds the top sand performance on the clock of tonight’s contestants for the (6.30) Dundalk. There isn’t a lot of all-weather form to go on and Ipanema Queen’s Listed win at The Curragh looks the standout piece of form but the selection looks a little overpriced considering she has plenty in her favour having won a £10,000 EBF race nicely from the rear two weeks ago over course and distance.

BIN AJWAD (8f 13y Hcap) – James Tate looks to have found a nice opportunity for this lightly-raced, improving three-year old who won over course and distance last month. He has started his career on a nice handicap mark following a gelding operation, and was nicely on top at the finish last time out in a good time when making headway from midfield to come home a length and three quarters too good for Riyadh Gem.

A six pound penalty should not stop him from going close again in tonight’s (6.45) Southwell providing jockey David Allan (who won on him last time out) can find a nice position from stall eleven.

BACKSPIN (6f 16y) – Another improving three-year-old worth supporting is this Richard Hughes trained son of Hello Youmzain in tonight’s (7.15) Southwell. He may have only won one of his ten career races but he ran a fine race from a wide draw last time out at Wolverhampton over 7f and has improved greatly on the clock since the application of blinkers.

A keen-going sort, he looked to have settled better last time out and a reproduction of that effort should see this course and distance winner go close. He should get a nice tow into the race from front-runners True Promise and Ancient Times.
