Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Good Heavens (101) and 1pt win Desperate Dan (100) – Plenty of pace for the selections to aim at but on the day they were below their latest winning form.
1.5pts win Bear Island (101) – It’s always a good feeling when your selection is fancied in the market and is backed from 11/4 into 7/4 favourite at the off. On this occasion the selection found very little when asked to pick up the leaders in the straight. I had him recording a time 3 lengths per mile faster than he recorded, so it would appear he had an off day. It will be interesting to see how the sectional times look when they come out.
Today’s Advice
RASCAL RECKNELL (7f Hcap) – Mick Appleby has revitalised this four-year-old since acquiring him from the Kevin Philipart De Foy yard judging by his recent course and distance win. On that occasion he raced in touch of the front runners before making headway over a furlong out and coming home two lengths in front. The handicapper has put him up 6lbs for that effort but he is still below his rating from last year.
His main problem is that he can race keenly and with just Benacre in the field for front-running duties it will be hoped that there is enough pace up front for him to find a nice rhythm. Joe Fanning’s mount has solid enough claims, when he is on a going day, but predicting when that day is can prove difficult.
On a day with plenty of low grade action I will be hoping that Mick Appleby’s magic can continue to have an effect on this son of Wootton Bassett.
1pt win Rascal Recknell (7/2 general) 6.45 Chelmsford
