Today’s Advice
VULCANUS (6f Hcap) – Sha Tin stages an eight race all-weather card today and the (1.15) looks to be priced up interestingly considering the favourite Glaciated has yet to race on dirt. He has performed well in Barrier Trials on the dirt winning his latest one, and came home well from stall eight on turf when last seen at today’s venue beaten just two lengths behind Ruby Sailing while recording a (104) timefigure. A reproduction of that on today’s surface would see him clear of today’s field but without experience racing on today’s surface I am happy to look elsewhere for a bit of value.
The second favourite Daily Trophy has been given a wide draw in stall eleven while Happy Action recorded a lowly (99) timefigure over course and distance last time out.
The selection has been performing well sine returning from a 63 day absence back in September and recorded a (102) timefigure last time out over six furlongs at Happy Valley from a wide draw in stall eleven. He has some excellent form over course and distance with a win by three and a half lengths last season and having finished runner-up on three occasions behind Mojave Desert who was last seen finishing placed from a 22lb higher mark on the dirt and Dragon Air Force who has been hiked up 19lb since to mention a couple.
He looks the right price for a sporting interest and I would prefer his chances in stall eight to those of the second favourite in stall eleven.
EQUION (8f Hcap) – With the going for today’s (2.25) Bath described as Soft (Heavy in places) yesterday morning with 2-5mm of rain forecast it should prove profitable to look for those who have previous form with Heavy in the description. The selection’s record when Heavy is mentioned in the going description reads 431953212.
He last won from a handicap mark four pounds higher than today’s last November by a short head from Temper Trap at Nottingham on a soft surface while recording a (103) timefigure. Last time out he finished in fourth place beaten three and a half lengths on a good to soft surface behind Orangesandlemons in a Class 2 handicap. The winning time for this race was very strong and the the third and sixth place finishers Dovey Moon and Youarenotforgiven have already come out and won. He raced from two pounds out of the handicap on that occasion, and the handicapper has left him alone for that solid effort. He also has finished runner-up over course and distance last October and everything looks in place for another solid performance.
The price looks to be about right but he still warrants a bet with so many boxes ticked. Jockey Danny Muscutt has only ridden four times for the Tony Carroll stable on the level since September 2012 and has finished runner-up twice with one of them aboard today’s selection at Leicester last season.
WYLD BILL (10f Hcap) – This four-year-old looked mightily impressive last time out over course and distance when coming home seven and a half lengths too good for Mister Daydream. The handicapper has put him up 8lbs for that and jockey Ray Dawson is back on board again for tonight’s (8.15) Chelmsford.
The application of blinkers for the Denis Quinn stable has brought about great improvement with three handicap wins and a 16lb rise through the ratings. He still looks to have a few pound up his sleeve despite the step up in class for tonight’s contest and it may prove wise to stay onside until he is beaten. As a hold up performer we will be looking for a solid pace from prominent racers Frostmagic, Gretna Dreams and Live Each Day.
