Yesterday’s Review
1pt win The Green Man (104) – The selection missed the break badly and having looked like he faced an impossible task remarkably made up an unbelieveable amount of ground halfway through the contest. He looked the likeliest winner inside the final furlong before having to be restrained to a halt at the finish eventually coming home in fifth place. I think it would be fair to say that the ride fell a good bit below the standard that one would expect.
Today’s Advice
MISS NIFTY (7F Hcap) – This three-year-old filly looked very unlucky last time out over course and distance on a soft surface when given an over confident ride by her inexperienced pilot when flying home at the finish to be denied by a small margin. The handicapper has raised her 5lbs for today’s (1.55) Curragh but she deserves another chance to put her head in front this time.
The ground is described as Heavy for today’s action and although it is advertised as a level above the last day we won’t know exactly how soft it rides until a few races in. Previously she had finished seventh at Down Royal over the extended ten furlongs in a race that was hot on the clock which has yielded plenty of winners and strong performances from Ohmali and Ribee to mention a few.
I’m hoping she travels as well as the last day and with a bit more savvy hopefully her young pilot can get the job done today.
CHAZZESMEE/COEUR D’OR (8f Hcap) – The (3.05) Curragh looks a tough handicap with a few wildcards at the bottom of the weights to be wary off. The former selection was a course and distance winner on heavy ground from a four pound higher mark early last season. He has slowly come back down to a winnable mark now and last time out tried to give 19lbs to Sunriseontheboyne at Listowel on heavy ground (who we know is very capable on his day).
The handicapper has left him alone since and he looks worth an interest on ground he likes.
The latter has been a bit of a difficult horse to win with considering his last winwas over two years ago. A course and distance winner who likes soft ground he has been knocking on the door this season and got no sort of run last time out at this venue over ten furlongs when finishing fourth beaten two and a half lengths behind Retracement.
There looks to be plenty of pace for him to aim at today and with a bit better luck in running he should be involved in the finish.
0.5pt e/way Miss Nifty (13/2 general 5 places) 1.55 Curragh (Paddy Power and Skybet are going 6 places for those who can get on there)
0.75pt e/way Chazzesmee (9/1 Ladbrokes, Corals, 17/2 general 5 places) 3.05 Curragh (same as above again for 6 places)
0.75pt e/way Coeur d’Or (14/1 Ladbrokes, Corals, 12/1 general 5 places) 3.05 Curragh (same as above again for 6 places)
