Today’s Advice
TUFAAN E DUBAI (6f Mdn) – The (2.40) Meydan looks a weak enough maiden on what we know so far with short price favourite Faraman putting in a laboured effort on debut behind On The Way at Jebel Ali while recording a (99) timefigure. As we know big improvements can be seen from first to second run, but I was happy to look for value elsewhere.
The selection won his trial race very comfortably when racing prominently over five furlongs at today’s venue. Mayana may have let the form down recently but I am keeping faith with the winner who recorded a decent time on the day. A proper raceday experience can prove different for some of these trialists but I felt there was enough in his price to warrant a small interest.
SPY KINGDOM (8f Hcap) – The Bhupat Seemar trained three-year-old Galactic Star looks a worthy favourite for the (3.50) Meydan having won a Listed race from Heart Of Honor last season over the extended nine furlongs. However, his best timefigure from his five races so far lies at a lowly (104). There may be more to come, but at the prices on offer it looks worth searching for an alternative.
The selection had been recording RPRs in the 80’s for Archie Watson back in the UK on turf last season but remained winless. An unplaced debut effort for new trainer Ali bin Harmash over seven furlongs at Abu Dhabi looked a quiet introduction, but the son of Kitten’s Joy showed that dirt racing was much more his cup of tea last time out over seven furlongs at Jebel Ali. On that occasion he won his maiden easily by eight and a half lengths having tracked the leaders before coming clear two furlongs from home and recording a (109) timefigure. The step up to the mile today should see him in an even better light and while he has yet to prove himself at today’s venue there is enough in his price to warrant a sporting investment.
LITTLE QUEENIE (6f Hcap) – Paul Flynn has this six-year-old mare in fine form this season and she just failed by a nose to get the job done two runs back over course and distance from a pound lower mark than what she races off for tonight’s (7.15) Dundalk. She recorded a (107) timefigure on that occasion while carrying the welter burden of 9st 12lbs. It may have looked like an inferior effort last time out when she could only manage fourth behind Sir Les Patterson over course and distance but that was a strong handicap on the clock and she performed equally as good recording a (109) timefigure.
It is interesting that connections are availing of the full ten pound allowance from jockey Adam Grant and it will be a great opportunity for the young apprentice. Adam has had just 43 rides this year with two wins and eight places and he has shown he can ride from the front having employed the same tactics successfully aboard Nakasero at Leopardstown. She should be able to be race from the front with minimal pressure from her rivals and providing Adam can get her racing in a nice rhythm she should be involved in the finish.
