Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Electric Avenue (98) – A step back on recent efforts from the selection who weakened over a furlong from home having mainly tracked the leaders. It was a race where it paid to be ridden with patience as the first three at the two furlong pole all finished unplaced.
Today’s Advice
THUNDERSTORM KATIE (5f Hcap) – A quiet day with mainly low-grade action. This four-year-old filly was interesting for tonight’s (7.15) Newcastle though in the fact that she drops back from six furlongs to the distance where she was last successful. She was returning to the track last time out following a 36 day break and still performed with credit finishing in sixth place just beaten five lengths over a distance that was a shade too far on a stiff track like Newcastle. When last seen over today’s trip back in October she raced prominently before leading inside the final furlong to win by a nose. Remarkably, she was giving runner-up Bibendum five pounds that day and with her young jockey Lauren Young’s five pound allowance now receives five pounds from that horse. Lauren rode a fine race to finish runner-up on Oriental Prince recently and has ridden four winners since November.
The (107) timefigure for that win reads very well in the context of today’s race and we will be hoping for a similar performance while carrying eight pounds less. Ganesha has also recorded a (107) timefigure last time out behind Hover On The Wind but now has to carry twelve pounds more in weight.
