Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Positive Smile (101) – Do Your Part (104) (an infrequent front-runner) never lived up to his name in this contest for as soon as Hugh Bowman snuggled him in behind front running Riding Together (106) this race was over. Dylan Browne McMonagle has been showing lately how improved he has become with big priced winners everywhere and if you give a top jockey a freebie in front it’s not going to end well for the hold up horses. I was hoping for a midfield position for the selection who had a decent draw but the combination of breaking third last and the enterprising ride on the winner put an end to his chances very early as he could only manage sixth place.

Today’s Advice

KING OF YORK (7f 14y Hcap) – The (4.26) Southwell looks like a race with plenty of pace on with Harbour Vision, Judgement Call and Goldmoyne in opposition. The selection is a course and distance specialist who had dropped to a career low mark of 51 last season nearly 30lbs below his previous best. Trainer Scott Dixon has revitalised him both on the clock and in the ratings since the blinkers have been applied with two wins and four runner-up positions. Last time out he raced in touch of the leaders before just failing by a neck to get the better of My Mate Mike in the finish. This was a solid effort considering he had just returned from a 274 day break six days previously.

Jockey Kieran O’Neill knows him well having been on board for his last two races and has won on him before. On a day where few horses looked decent value this seven-year-old should be in the shake-up once again with a decent pace to aim at.
