Today’s Advice

GRABAJABBA (8f 13y Hcap) – The (3.55) Southwell looks an interesting contest judging by the pace angle. There are one or two infrequent front-runners in the field but no confirmed solid pace booked in. With that in mind it may pay to side with those runners who have proven form over shorter than a mile. The selection has won twice over 7f and is racing from a 4lb lower mark today than when successful at Wolverhampton at the back end of 2024.  He has yet to win since but has performed with credit from wide draws here last time out behind Saytarr and when finishing third in a (0-85) handicap behind Eminency last December. The application of first-time cheekpieces saw him gallop all the way to the line last time out and they may just enable him to return to the winner’s enclosure.

Harry Davies has been booked for the ride and he has a fine strike rate for the stable with 10 winners from 59 rides (16.9%) since 2022, and was recently successful aboard High On Hope and Bell Shot. The Brian Meehan trained Panama Black returned to form last time out following a gelding operation at Wolverhampton and if he could reproduce that performance he would be a danger. However, I sided with the Mick Appleby contestant as he looks the more reliable of the two at the moment.
