Today’s Advice

ORIENTAL SURPRISE (6f Hcap) – The (11.10) Happy Valley looks an interesting contest considering the short price favourite has finished 10th and 12th in his two races at today’s venue. Known more as a Sha Tin specialist it may prove worthwhile looking elsewhere for value. The selection is a 21-race maiden who has been deserted by Zac Purton having put up a career best (104) timefigure from a wide draw last time out over course and distance. He raced prominently on that occasion seven days ago but it is worth noting that he has been beaten just a neck in his two most recent races when returning to the track following breaks of less than 8 days. He is well drawn in stall 4 today and he should have no excuses.

CITY CYCLONE (6f Hcap) – The (7.00) Kempton sees Buccabay put in as the short price favourite and he does have plenty of course and distance form to warrant that position. He does return from a 49 day break and while he has performed well when fresh before, his latest two races over course and distance have yet to yield a winner since. The selection looks a little overpriced considering he has put up two career best (108) timefigures on the clock over course and distance when finishing third to future winner Hierarchy and finishing a half length in front of Em Four. He won again last time out over 7f at Wolverhampton by a short head from the difficult to win with Diamondonthehill. It is interesting that he finished ahead of Nemov when they last met but is a much bigger price today and the second and third in the market have yet to see this track. William Carson knows him well and he should be able to tuck in behind the pace despite the wide draw in stall 8.
