Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Heavenly Heather (111) – A solid enough performance from the selection who raced keenly from the front with no cover and weakened over a furlong out to finish in fifth place beaten just under 5 lengths. The winner Fast Track Harry (116) put up a much improved performance on the clock from his Lingfield win and the future looks very nice for connections with this four-year-old. The first three home put in career best performances on the clock and the selection will need to bounce back to her best to even trouble them going forward.
1pt win Blue Lakota (104) – The selection was backed into 11/5 favourite and looked all over the winner when taking up the running over a furlong from home. Unfortunately, the response was very limited and he was a long way from his latest form weakening into fourth place beaten just under a length.
Today’s Advice
DOSMAN (8f 142y Hcap) – Trainer Oli Rix has been rewarded with the patience he has shown with this five-year-old since he acquired him from the Jamie Osbourne stable last December. The son of Kingman had some fine form early in his career notably when finishing third to Ombudsman at Newmarket and reached a handicap mark just below 100 when first testing the handicap waters back in 2024. Connections have slowly brought him back to his best recently and following an unlucky second place finish over the mile at Newcastle behind Calianassa he came good last time out at Southwell. He raced in the rear that day as a ferocious pace was set by Londoner and made good headway over a furlong from home to lead insde the furlong before coming two lengths clear of Zryan. The handicapper has only raised him 4lbs for that effort and Jonny Peate takes the ride again for tonight’s (7.00) Newcastle from a kind draw in stall five.
This morning’s short price favourite First Principle ran a nice race on seasonal debut for the Haggas camp in the Lincoln Trial early in the month when trying to make all just going down by 1.25 lengths to The Lost King in the end. It will be interesting to see if he can come forward from that 13 days later. City Of Poets impressed when last seen back in November beating the same horse as our selection did last time out by a short head. This will be his first race in 132 days and a wide draw in stall 11 will make things tricky for him too. The way the race has shaped up a lot of the boxes are ticked for the selection and it is hoped that he can improve again for connections tonight.
