1pt e/way Dosman (105) – Another solid effort from the selection who travelled well and looked to be coming with a winning run inside the final furlong. Unfortunately, the favourite had his own way out in front and was able to fight back at the finish. There should still be plenty of fun ahead for connections with the five-year-old. Result 2nd 11/1 adv…15/2 SP.
Today’s Advice
ALPHA CAPTURE (8f 5y Hcap) – The (7.00) Newcastle looks an interesting race with plenty of the contestants having performed to a similar level on the clock recently. The favourite Mr Nugget has been performing with great credit lately with three wins and two second place finishes. The handicapper has put him up 10lbs since the start of that run but the way he has been performing it would be no surprise if there was more to come. This will be his first visit to Newcastle so far and at the prices I was happy to look for an alternative.
The selection has already raced at tonight’s venue when trained by William Haggas back in 2022 having finished in third place over six furlongs in a Class 2 contest. Formerly rated in the 100’s he has had plenty of time off throughout his career and was last seen winning over the mile for Irish trainer Willie Mullins at Killarney in July 2024 from a four pound lower mark than tonight’s. He makes his debut for trainer Roger Fell over the mile following a 231 day absence and he caught the eye when returning from a 306 day break last June when finishing runner up over 9f at Leopardstown behind Tachos beaten just under a length. The strength of that race has been advertised plenty since with Zipster, Rampage, Unterberg, Speckled Meadow, Pillar Of Hope and Moyassr all coming out to win.
It should be noted that three of the last four Roger Fell runners that have returned to the flat following a break of 231 days or more have all won namely Mimie Dancers 5/4 (472 days) 6th June 2023, A Lady Forever 20/1 (834 days) 27th Feb 2025, and Eldrickjones 10/1 (239 days) 11th May 2025. In a race that looked tight enough I was willing to have a small interest in one that might enjoy a change of scenery.
