Starsoftheclock Wednesday 8th April 2026 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

1pt win Alpha Capture (105) – A solid enough performance from the winner on the clock. Unfortunately, jockey Mark Winn wasn’t positive enough from the stalls early on and the winner was able to come across from stall nine and take the best position in the race. He ended up two positions back from the leader, stuck on the rail and was hampered in his run through over a furlong from home. The winner and second home had uninterrupted passages through and the selection could only manage third place beaten a length and a quarter.

1pt e/way Tonal (105) – The selection missed out on the places beaten a half length for fourth place and this will go down as a poor ride from apprentice Ryan Kavanagh. The young pilot rode a beautiful race early doors to get a nice position in touch of the leaders. Unfortunately, he asked his mount for his effort way too soon before the long home straight and after leading two furlongs from home the selection weakened into fifth place. Ryan is still learning his trade so we can’t be too hard on him, but he will need more practice to get the clock in his head sorted going forward.

Today’s Advice

DRYBURGH (10f 50y Hcap) – This three-year-old caught the eye last time out ten days ago over 10f at Doncaster for trainer Oli Rix having been held up last in a slowly run race before finishing well to take third place behind the Dylan Cunha trained Arc Ole Ole beaten just over a length at the finish. He wore a first time hood that day which is back on again today and the handicapper has left him alone for that performance. He recorded the fastest final three furlongs of the field in 37.44 secs. A reproduction of that effort should see him competitive for today’s (3.32) Nottingham and he looks the right price for a sporting interest.

TOKEN LOVE (8f 75y Hcap) – This four-year-old has not been getting his due reward having quickened away from his rivals over 9.5f at Wolverhampton the last twice before getting caught inside the final furlong to finish fifth and second respectively. The drop back to today’s extended mile trip looks needed and while he hasn’t been seen in over three months he looks worth a minimum stake at his current odds to put in a decent shift once again. He has form on the turf behind Eternal Force last season at Redcar and a kind draw in stall 5 should help his cause for today’s (4.07) Nottingham.

PACE ATTACK (8f Mdn) – It is rare that I get involved in horses on their second career effort as we cannot be sure if they can make the necessary step forward with little evidence to go on. However, sometimes the price of the selection overrides that and this is one of those situations. We all know trainer Sir Mark Prescott’s modus operandi and that usually involves three runs at inadequate distances before bolting up in their fourth race at a more suitable trip. However, a less known stat is that runners from the Sir Mark Prescott stable on their second career start at 28/1 or less have won 39-262 races (14.9%) since the 21st January 2010.

The selection was noted having missed the break on debut over course and distance before keeping on well enough to record the 2nd fastest final furlong of 12.03 secs while finishing in seventh place beaten just over 4 lengths by Enemy Agent. The strength of the form has been advertised already with sixth home Freda having won a fillies’ novice race at 22/1 on Monday. The (102) timefigure that I awarded the selection easily sits at the top of the timing charts for today’s (5.30) Kempton with just three contestant’s having raced so far. He may still need today’s race before seen at his best but it should be noted that his dam Sorelle Delle Rose won for trainer Dermot Weld over six furlongs at Naas on second career start back in 2017. The early price burglars have taken some of the 66/1 available last night but he still looks worth an interest at a healthy double figure price.
