Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt e/way Photosynthesis (101) – The selection raced prominently down the centre of the track and at one stage looked like he might throw down a decent challenge. However, he weakened at the business end of the race coming home in seventh place beaten 4.5 lengths. He was well backed from 14/1 into 9/1 and better was expected. The first four home were interestingly drawn furthest from the near side rail in stalls 1-4.
Today’s Advice
IT’SNEVERJUSTONE (7f Hcap) – This four-year-old was noted finished best from midfield along with Grabajabba on seasonal debut behind Jimmy Speaking over 7f at Doncaster in a race where it paid to be close to the pace. He won a decent Galway handicap last season off a 4lb lower mark from a wide draw in stall 16, that was loaded with future winners, giving the impression that there is another win in him. He has yet to win another race since but put in a career best (107) timefigure behind Noche Classica at Redcar over the mile (who has won again since). The drop back in trip for today’s (3.58) Thirsk should be more suitable considering he led over two furlongs from home on that occasion before weakening inside the final furlong. Laura Pearson is on board and she will be looking to ride her first winner of the new year on just her fifth ride.
KOKANEE (8f 75y Hcap) – This Ed Dunlop trained four-year-old put in a career best (106) timefigure last time out over the mile at Pontefract when finishing best of all behind Zowal. He raced in midfield on that occasion and was closing in fast down the outside before missing out by a short head. The handicapper has put him up 2lbs for tonight’s (6.15) Nottingham and connections have offset that with in-form apprentice Mason Paetel’s five pound claim. The young rider has been in decent form lately with wins aboard Jumeirah Sands and Juan Les Pins and this is a good opportunity aboard an improving type. The selection has been well placed by his trainer in this (0-75) handicap which allows horses rated a pound higher to compete.
Pace should come from Highland Olly and Oceans Five and his main danger according to the betting is the Roger Varian trained Influential who has been gelded for the season ahead and is lightly raced with very liitle strong form to go on.
