LADY LILAC (8f 50y Hcap) – This four-year-old filly has returned in fine form this season with a third place finish over the mile at The Curragh last time out behind Key Witness where she looked like she would have prevailed in another stride or two. The handicapper has put her up 4lbs and the application of first time cheekpieces are interesting along with the booking of experienced pilot Seamie Heffernan. The form has been franked already with the runner-up Diego El Queso coming good at Leopardstown and the (110) timefigure backs up that view. With only one win from eight on turf last season it may be considered a disappointing year but she was only out of the first four on one occasion. She looks a consistent type and a decent draw in stall nine should see her put in another solid shift for today’s (4.25) Limerick.
ASHEN (8f 2y Hcap) – The Skybet Series returns tomorrow and with plenty of races already priced up I decided to get involved in an outsider for the (3.45) Musselburgh. With plenty of pace signed up with the likes of Two B Tanned, Swift Salian, Dwindling Funds, Eazy On The Eye and Ayr Poet in the field it may pay to side with a hold up performer.
The selection is a lightly raced Jim Goldie project that he has acquired from the Marcus Tregoning stable at the backend of last season. He has only had the three races for his current stable since then and caught the eye last time out coming from an impossible position over 6f at Thirsk to finish 7th of 18 behind Yes I’m Mali beaten just under 5 lengths. He was noted recording the fastest final furlong in 12.12 secs and the handicapper has kindly dropped him 2lbs. A staying on fourth place finish for his previous stable over 7f at Sandown from a 7lb higher mark last summer behind Last Shamardal and recent winner Thirsk winner Kosometsuke reads well in the context of this race and if he can build on his latest effort he looks worth a flyer at a very inflated double figure price.
