PIXIE DIVA (5f Hcap) – This four-year-old filly recorded a career best (110) timefigure last time out over 5f at Yarmouth behind all-the-way winner Almaty Star. She was given a lot do from the rear under Oisin Murphy and ran on well inside the final furlong to finish in second place beaten 2.5 lengths. The handicapper has left her alone for that performance and she looks a few pounds ahead of her mark based on the clock. Ryan Moore has been booked for the ride for today’s (4.20) Ascot and she should certainly benefit from the international star’s presence in the saddle.
Pace for the race looks to be high with All Ways Glamorous (14), Emperor Spirit (10), and Hockney (9) leading the charge and hopefully her pilot can find a nice tow in behind. Her trainer George Scott has had a decent April with Alvin, Behike, Phantom Flight and Prydwen all finding the winner’s enclosure.
DOSMAN/SAYTARR (8f Hcap) – The (5.30) Ascot has plenty of interesting types declared and we have landed on two of today’s contestants in the past. The selection looked very unlucky last time out on All-Weather Championships Day over the mile at Newcastle when finding all doors locked from the rear when finishing in fourth place behind Tyrrhenian Sea. The handicapper has left him alone and Jack Dace takes another handy 3lbs off having taken over from Jonny Peate. He looks well treated on turf considering his best performance came behind Ombudsman in the summer of 2024 and he has been lightly raced since.
Followers of this blog will be familiar with the James Horton trained Saytarr who has won the last twice for us. The hold-up performer is unbeaten for current connections, and although his form on turf has yet to match his all-weather form, I am willing to give him a chance to prove me wrong considering his dam won twice on grass. Pace looks to be drawn low beside him with Storm Star (2) and Dingle (3) both next to each other and he still looks fairly handicapped based on the clock if he can show an improved ability on today’s surface.
